My uncle used to pull coins from my ear. I wonder if there's a premise in that little slice of "Wonder Years" style typical Americana...
He also liked to steal my nose sometimes. Best, Mike |

My Uncle was a counterfeiter and a bootlegger . Our next family reunion will be in 5 to 10 years!

Mike, (Wildstone)
That's the opening line from my "Coins to Glass" routine: "This goblet looks empty, yet it contains something very special. A memory. The memory of the first magic trick I ever saw. Not the best trick, necessarily, but the first one. The one that made me want to do this. I was nine years old, and my uncle reached behind my ear and pulled out a quarter (this is done in mime, no coin visible yet) every now and then, I like to take this memory down off the shelf and dust it off a little. (coin is now produced at fingertips under "dusting" motions)" It goes on from there, but there is a loose metaphor introduced as coins as memories. It all comes from the "coin behind the Ear" moment.

I'd like one without all the moves. Let's face it, if you could really make coins invisibly travel from one hand to the other, you wouldn't be rearranging coins, counting them out, touching them with your index finger, banging on them with other coins, making awkward gestures, etc... While the spectator may not be able to point out a specific move, they see hands touching and unnecessary movements and it can look like a sneaky trick. That's why I've developed a very clean 4 coins at once across. Hands stay separated. No unnecesary pointing out coins, etc...

Has anyone tried the presentation suggested in AOA? You perform the effect in the hands of one person, who is coached to narrate the effect to the entire group. Her (or his) reactions tell the story, and make the effect play big.
Perhaps you should emphasize the announcer's role by not saying anything yourself. Think of Derek Dingle's handling done this way, where the spectator feels each coin appear. It could work.

A couple pf premises I have used at computer trade shows and commercial events revolve around the idea of internet security. When one does business on the internet, if one isn't careful, they might find their bank account suddenly drained - or drained slowly when done by a real pro - where you don't really notice the drain until it's too late...
Another is the old addage: "The Lord Gives...and Uncle Sam Taketh Away!" has served me, especially when addressing groups of the self-employed. Those quarterly tax payments can make your profits disappear from your account and magically appear at the accounts of the US Treasury department. Just a couple of ideas for your consideration... Like the taketh away idea! A good line while removing a coin from a spectators closed hand.
Thanks for the idea.

RE: "That's the opening line from my "Coins to Glass" routine:"
I figured the uncle / coin / ear premise was already in play. It's too familiar and universally recognized not to be. I really like the coins & memories tweak on it Curtis. I wonder if there is a production vessel that more closely ties into the uncle pulling coins from ear motif? What do uncles who pull coins from ears always seem to have with them? A hankerchief? A wallet? Actually, now that I think about it, my uncle drank quite a bit, so I guess a glass IS a good production vessel Best, Mike |

Hello, everyone. I am a relatively new member, and this is my first post. I was thinking of posing my left hand as my bank account and my right hand as the IRS. This would provide some comic relief and a story line for "coins across". Jeff
