Ask for them. Once you have your google my business set up, you forecast to your client that you will be asking for a review and testimonial and referrals when your done with your event, party etc.... You have to have My Business set up first. It is what google hosts the reviews on. Don't waste time with other review sites. Then you could follow up with something like this..... This is Hal the magician. It was a pleasure meeting and working with your group (kids) etc. Thank you so much for your business! Would you honor me by giving a quick review on Google? Thanks so much! It helps my business grow and means the world to me.

Won't be fast if you're doing 4 shows a year

Email is good for past customers. Facebook is really good for past customers and new prospecting too. My earlier post re:Google was for new customers. Facebook is cool because once you have a FB fan page and you have folks that 'Like" it it is similar to having a mailing list that you can 'Mail" to or "eMail" to any time. Another advantage is that if you have 100 'Likes' and those 100 folks have 100 friends, there's a potential of 10,000 leads. You can do a promotion for shares. Your 100 likes can share a video of something you do to their timelines. Not all will but some will. Everyone has birthdays.
Don't forget retirement parties too. Email is just really tough for new prospects. It's hard to get a good list of leads. Corporate leads are tough too. I would imagine, corporate, restaurant and birthday folks would hit the internet first....keyword <<<corporate magician near me>>> <<<Birthday magician>>> I do think we (Magicians) miss a ton of opportunity at parties, events, restaurants and gigs by not being really planned proactive and intentional about getting our word out. Doorprizes are great. Register for giveaways. Sounds silly, but a real estate yard sign in the front yard at the birthday party is so silly but it works. Birthday Magic Shows By Hal The Magician 334-999-9999 with a QR CODE that says take a picture of me. or a flyer/business card box on the sign for parents. The TT business card trick where your card stands up on the back of your hand. Or a tt bill switch that turns into a Million $ bill with your website on it. So many ideas so little time. Svengali business cards....blank stack to fully printed cards. Then give one away. that's STRONG. QR CODE ON ALL BUSINESS CARDS. Don't forget google reviews will eventually help drive search rankings |

Oh, most geographic areas have a Facebook buy sell trade page you could market birthday parties, corporate gigs and retirement parties on. People are marketing bouncie houses on them all the time. Link it to your website.

My point is that if you can he 100 reviews fast then you already have a pretty good business model.

Right, I see what you’re saying. However, the 50-100 threshold could be 2-3 years and means that you really don’t pay for clicks any longer. Organic search really seems to take over.

Had the honor of working with John Calvert on marketing a show from scratch. The man was a true genius when it came to marketing. The old pros know what works in the real world. Books and courses are great but none will work if you don't get out there and do the work.
