I pre-ordered these knowing they wouldn't ship until the middle of Jan 2019 and got mine the other day. Finally, a Boris Wild MD on Phoenix Brand cards, no more having to go the Bicycle Maiden Backs that they are produced on currently. These are on the same Phoenix back you are already using (assuming you use Phoenix brand). You still get the same built in one way feature and the marks are placed very well. Each deck comes with a QR code with a free effect (video performance and exp) from his latest "Marked Deck Project" DVD by BBM. You also get a 19 page PDF download explaining the marking system, applications and practice notes plus another effect. They cost anywhere from $20 per (for 1-4 decks) to $8 per (for 6 bricks). I opted to try out 5 for $16 per and mixed n matched (1 regular pip and 4 large pips) (1 brick is $12.5 per and 2 bricks goes down to $10 per) mix and match numbers added up count toward quantity discount.
I had picked up the 2 DVD set recently when it came out to see effects that I might be able to use with some of my "several other" marked decks I have sitting around. I also picked up a BWMD in Maiden Back (by Royal Magic) to try out. I knew how they worked but have never used a BWMD before. IIRC the Royal deck was about $12 - $14 in Maiden Back. I did like it better than the Penguin Maiden back marked cards (even at the $5 per price for 12+ decks). The BWMDs are not only marked but they have a very subtle one way back feature as well. The Penguin decks (in my opinion) are WAY UP THERE on the "overkill" front (or back if you want to be technical ). 6 marks on each back, pre-packaged in Mnemonica order (that matters for very few compared to the number sold I would think). I only have 1 deck of the Penguin so I am not sure if they have a one-way feature or not. Anyway, I really don't want to debate which MD out there is the "best". There are way too many that have their own qualities. I just wanted to let people know that the new Boris Wild MDs are available and shipping for those who want to check them out. My personal recommendation would be to try the Large Pip deck. I truly believe the Large Pip Phoenix Cards will get more and more popular as magicians try them and hold them side by side with regular pip cards or even the "ugly" Bicycle Jumbo Face cards. Phoenix takes quality seriously and really thinks out their design. Little things like tweaking the back art on stripper decks makes them TOP QUALITY, Designing the back art as marked cards then removing the marks for the regular decks makes "their brand marked cards" high quality too (different from BWMD). The large center pip aces really stand out in performance and now that the Pips are larger, without really taking away from the faces we all know [like bike jumbos inner boxes], bring all the other cards in the deck to the level of the center ace pips. They just get better all the time. I am very happy with these new BWMDs and look forward to the next step in the Card-Shark Phoenix Brand Product Line. (I thought I read somewhere that "Mini Decks" were coming in the future) I do not remember where exactly or when but I hope I read it right wherever that was. here is a link to the new BWMDs: http://www.card-shark.de/index.cfm?page=......rtID=378 enjoy them.

I had the BWMD when it was first released in bicycle cards, and also made up a deck of my own after seeing Boris lecture it over 15 years ago.
I really liked the thinking behind the marking, but for me, the bicycle back design was always too busy to notice them without “over looking”. After seeing them released in the Phoenix back design, I had to get them! So much easier to read, without being obvious - able to find a card in a spread within 3 seconds. I highly recommend these, for those who like this marking system. |

As I've said elsewhere on the Café, I am addicted to marked decks and have just about every version, book, video that's been released over the last 25 years. The BWMD has always been in my top 3 and is one of the fastest and, more importantly, most functional decks ever produced. Ironically, the Phoenix marked deck is also in my top 3. The Phoenix MD is actually the deck I use most often in daily life. Perfect design. Easy to read yet super deceptive. So this is a fantastic combination IMO. The only knock is that the price is still too high. Given the amount of competition on the market, marked decks should be $10 or less IMO. The Penguin decks are a perfect example of a high quality marked deck that can obviously be produced and sold for around $5 per deck. I'm all for building in a profit margin, but I still say $10 is more than enough.

The reason I never buy from him direct. Way too expensive and customer service has taken a nose-dive recently.

emyers99, I prefer the regular Phoenix Marked decks too but I now have a bit of a toss-up over the two. One thing I took away from the BW dvd set was the ability to "speed scan" the deck due to the suit placement. You really only need to "Look over" 13 cards when searching for 1 in the spread. However, with my aging eyesight, I have a "slight disadvantage" reading J,Q,K,A on a BWMD compared to the Phoenix markings. I can still read them both quick enough to get away with using either though. Overall, they are fairly equal to me if you weigh any advantage / disadvantage of either.

Is Card-Shark company still alive? I ordered some packs a month ago and still no luck, they don't reply to emails too.

They were closed for a couple weeks over Christmas and New Year's. They also had a notice on the site for a bit about illness and the shop behind down a bit. Add in the fact that January has at least 2 major conventions (Sessions and Magi-Fest). That might be part of the hold up. I do know that they are still alive and in business as I talked to the guy who is the USA Warehouse of Card-Shark about a week ago on the phone. I don't know why they wouldn't respond to an email though.
