I am going to be away as a counselor at our church's jr. camp next week and am planning on having lots of fun with the kids and doing a few tricks each eve in our cabin before lights out. One idea I had was to utilize the invisible deck each night and have the card selected by the group or a different volunteer(s) done in a different way each eve. I was wondering if this might be overkill, or maybe too much of the same thing ?? I am planning on having a lot of fun and doing other tricks as well. I am planning on doing "The Web" one of the nights, but using my co-counselor as the volunteer for this one (in fact I let him in on it, so he will know whats gonna happen but it should still be great when he flips his hand over)!! I appreciate any feedback concerning over usage of Invisible Deck routine, thanks!

Overkill is an interesting subject because it all has to do with the people you are doing it to.
Some people think that after seeing a trick once there is no need to see it again, others want to see it as many times as possible. if the reaction the first time is large then it is a go ahead for a second, third, ect. Personally I try not to overkill any trick because i perform to one or two people at a time and it is hard to tell what tricks they would like to see again. I only redo a trick when it is asked for.

Thanks linkinparkfan, good idea. If they get a kick out of it, I will keep it going. I was thinking maybe of keeping this particular deck in a baggie or have a rubberband around it (after i turn over the card each afternoon... wink wink) But in general, i totally agree and wouldnt repeat a trick or do it again upon request, etc!

What I would suggest is perhaps telling them that you woke up in the middle of the night & turned one card over in the pack because you had a dream that you were doing a trick for" -------" & they picked that card. So ask "-------" to name a card & reveal it as the one from the dream.
Another fun magic camping thing to do is bury some cards in differen't places for revelations. I wish I could go camping with you |

You sure telling him about the web was a good idea? I would have thought the point of that trick was the reaction from the spectator turning over their hand. Unless he's a great actor it's gonna be hard to pull off.

I know what you're saying Adam but i just felt a little worried about giving a heart attack to a 9 or 10 year old kid. I am not sure who might have a real fear of spiders in the group. I guess i could find creative ways to discover those that might have fears of spiders. One other thing i have found in doing the web with the smaller folk is hand size. They are likely to spot a plastic leg extending past their hand on either side (it has happened before) so you have to be very careful about centering it.
Thanks for the idea Ichazod, i like the dream idea and will definitely use it. GlenD

Another way of introducing the Invisible deck is to say you lost it last night, and has anyone seen it... Every night mght be a little much, there are a lot of simple, powerful tricks out there that you could very easily incorporate into an act... Invisible deck + disappearing deck etc... You might want to start night one with a packet trick... Disappear it with the disappearing deck, then the following night do an invisible deck... You get the Idea...
Hope this is of some help.
...and brilliant people should cross each others cycles, like some of the nicest planets.

Others may disagree; I feel the Ultra-Mental / Invisible deck is far too strong to overuse as a "running gag."
