Hey guys,
I just recently purchased Andy Amyx's quick release dove holder and am having several problems: I am doing a split silk right before I produce a dove using Andy's holder. I would prefer this to be a one handed production which Andy claims these holders can do. The problem is when I push on the lever upwards (I am right handed), only one of the to clasps releases. When I try to use both hands I have the same problem. Does anyone have any suggestions? Anything would help. Thanks, Kyle |

Yeah, that used to happen to mine too, here's what you have to do:
make sure that the elastic holding the bar is even. There shouldn't be more elastic on one side than on the other. Your bird also may be a little too small to really make it pop open. What you need to do to help also is take some gaffers tape and make the elastic tighter by taping the elastic together down by where it is sewn into the side of the holder. Try this and if it doesn't work you should try to contact Andy. He's pretty busy right now, so if you want, feel free to ask me any question you may have too. sperris

How old are you doves? Age has to do with the size of the bird, as they get older they usually get bigger.
Does the bag fit loose on the bird? |

Wmhegbli,
The dove I an using is about 4 years old and fits in to the holder fine. Sperris, Thanks for the tips, I wil give it a try. Kyle Dan, You say to tape it together, not to the holder, but like wind the tape around the elastic, right? Kyle |

Yeah, sorry I wasn't specific enough on that, it seems easy things are hard to describe in typing but the harder stuff to describe is easy... Let me know if it works and if not we can move to plan B. The elastic may just be too long, Andy does not make the holders, he has them made by a seamstress and she may have just mis-measured the elastic. If all else fails just take a razor or a searm ripper and re-thread your own elastic that is more fit to your bird. Believe me these holders are addicting, once you get it to work you'll just want to keep putting your bird in it just to watch it release. It's more mesmerising than television...

Dan,
The method of taping it together worked like a charm. Thank you very much. You are right, when it isn't working correctly it is really cool. Thanks again, Kyle P.S. Sorry I never got back to you on the order that I placed about a week before Easter. I loved your DVD and thought that your loop holders were ingenious. Thanks!!! |

Or you can take a pair of pliars and bend the hooks back gently to make the release easier. Or the other way to make it harder to release. Sorry if you had trouble!!
