“Have a nice day” by Aldo Colombini is about the strongest Elsmley count effect you can possibly perform (believe me, I’m a suxker for Elsmley count effects). The reason is that it is totally impossible to make one smiley into four. Another reason is that everybody loves Smileys. It is just a very psositive and happy effect.
For those of you performing “Have a nice day”. Try to show the last smiling card as a double lift (e.r. Sho the 4 of spades), and ask the spectator “do you remember the start of this triick? Yes, you chose a card and we put it in the middle of the pack. Your card was not the 4 of spades? Hold out your hand and take the four of spades”. Give them the supposedly four of spades, but in reality their chosen card. Ask “What was your card?” Get the answer, snap your fingers, and their you are. The magic happens in their hands. P.s. This trick does require a little of ongoing practice, because you ahve to remember the flow. As in any trick the flow is easiest remembered if you develop a pattern line that kind of gives you the clues as to what to do during the effect. Whenever I have to remember something e.g. like in this phase I have to put the top card to the bottom, then I develop a pattern-line that suits the effect, and makes me remember to bring the top card to the bottom. In “Have a nice day” (after the first Elsmley caount I point weith the last cart towards the smiling face card saying: “leaving the smiling face here on the top” (that will remind me to put the other card in the bottom. I like David Acer's cheap labor.
Can easily change it from stickmen to happy faces. I've changed it up to not only have the stickman multiple but also be on odd color backs. The end when the stickman is only found on one card which is their card is amazing |

Well, looks as if I was the first, few years ago, to suggest Aldo Colombini's routine...
I am aware that my co-Italian Aldo was well known for publishing a lot of stuff he hadn't really created, with often little crediting .. But among the huge amount of ****e he published, there were a few pieces that were good ... I've never performed "Smiley Face" but I can recognise a good piece when I see it. This is one of 'em. I hope you all agree .. Mark |

I mentioned above that one of the Colombini's $10 disks (now a download), includes a trick called "Cappricio" that sounds identical to "Have a Nice Day." Does anyone know whether the two tricks *are* identical, or close to it? If so, I'd rather purchase the latter than buy Essential Aldo Vol. III, which contains "Have a Nice Day."
Here are the link and description: https://www.lybrary.com/baroque-compositions-p-900043.html . "Capriccio: A card is freely selected and signed. You take four indifferent cards (no selection). You draw a smiley face on the back of one cards. One after the other all the cards have smiley faces. At the end, only one card has a smiley face. The selected one. No force and it re-sets itself." Thanks for your help, Bob |
