I am working on my DPS and I need advice about getting my thumb out of the way or how to do the push-in better so that the card slides by my thub. I have read Erdnases decription of DPS. As I read it nothing in the text say anything particular what to do about the thumb that is holding the deck from above and that often gets in the way when pushing the card in. The result of the thumb issue is weird movements when trying to get the card pass the thumb. I have worked on getting my pinkie out of the way so that the choosen card doesn't get stuck during the steal. Now the card gets stuck on the thumb instead. Any suggestion how to fix this issue?

If I understand your question, try to have your left pinky farther up the right side of the deck (meaning closer to the outer end), and have your right thumb as close to the inner left corner as possible. The card should be able to angle through the deck between the right thumb and left pinky at the side. In fact, they can sort of act as a guide so the card doesn't angle too much out the side of the deck, and the thumb's presence prevents it from projection too little.
Hope this helps, Yehuda |

The card going into the deck should start rotating slightly CCW as soon as you start pushing the card in......such that it just barely misses or touches your right thumb.
I let the card actually touch and go against my left pinkie for a second, as it helps control the card. The L. thumb then pulls it through a bit Then the card spins into palm using R. thumb and L. pinkie. Very hard to describe in words.....but strive for one nice fluid motion. Don't give up as it's a bit knacky but once you got.....not too difficult at all. |
