If you happen to be in Portland Oregon then be sure to stop by Powells book store and visit the rare book section. They have a pristine copy of The Grimoire Of The Mages, by Masklyn Ye Mage, and they will allow you carefully leaf through it at your leisure, or if you have $600 then you can just take it home. I visited and spent the some time with the Grimoire and it was a pleasure to behold. This little discovery was the Bizarre highlight of my visit to Portland, hope you get a chance to check it out!

All this hype and you didn't buy it? Lo Pan, my friend, how could you resist? You could have sold enough blood in Portland Oregon to pay for it. My car always runs a quart low on oil and is fine. Or maybe just sell an Oregon like a kidney or such. It only requires dropping the 'e' and changing the 'o' to an 'a'. Simple linguistics. (If you had called I could have loaned you a cadaver organ) Seriously, thanks for the post and the review on the book and the shop.

Hi Willie,
I did try selling blood but the line was too long, I think some of those guys were jumping the line and going twice. My kidney donation was rejected, too shriveled, same with my lung. Anyway it was a thrilling experience to just spend some time with the book though. My wife told the book seller that I was in heaven with the book, I didn’t correct her that it was someplace a little closer to hell. |

Sometimes wives don't need to know the origin or destination of some of our magic.

Some books are of value because of their rarity, and have little in the way of useful routines for a modern audience (Hocus Pocus Junior and The Discoverie of Witchcraft come to mind). In the case of the latter, the PDF is available online, so it is not as though the material can only be accessed by those who actually own the text. Conversely, there are many books where the effects contained within are the chief attraction. In the case of the books under discussion here I believe both criteria come into play. That said, I have not read either, so I share some of your curiosity in this regard. |

While the effects in the Grimoire of the Mages are interesting and inventive I would say that for me the books value lies in the presentation and scripting as well as the fact that each was a unique hand made creation of Masklyn Ye Mage. I read the book and feel a connection to an bygone and wonderful era in Bizarre Magic , to a person who I will never know but hold in esteem and for me the real magic in the book is that for a while I am transported away from my life and into the creative thoughts and adventures of the legendary authors. Each of Masklyn’s creations are unique and exciting (to me), I never tire of them.
Also, all the hand made tomes were very limited releases and are rare. |

Nice,
A friend of mine has both the scroll, the Grimoire and some other things from TA. I looked at them a couple of times and they are really outstanding. It´s almost like they have a life of their own.... |
