Thanks for clarifying that.
Please check regularly if you are becoming the type of magician Jerry Seinfeld jokes about. (This applies to mentalists as well.)

New review for Crossfire:
"If you like the idea of performing a book test with an added punch then Crossfire might be just the thing for you. In an interview Derren Brown once said, 'We like to watch human beings struggle, not god-like figures achieve anything just by flicking their fingers.' This effect is constructed to allow a performer to exemplify this advice. In the demo video Chris plays that character to perfection and gets a standing ovation. Crossfire is an ideal effect for parlour or smaller groups. Correctly presented, a very strong effect, as close to real mind reading as you might get, technically easy and with a strong and surprising final climax. 90%" -Stuart Bowie, Magic Seen Magazine Thanks, Stuart! |

Here are some pulled quotes: "This could be a closer. If you're a stage performer, you know the value of five minutes, so if you've got something that you can make work, you've got a winner there. That's gold dust for me. Crossfire is an easy trick. It plays big. But what's really important is this video download. Chris is someone who knows his stuff. And what's really nice is you get this performance at the Magic Castle which in his words is a flawed performance. I love seeing that. It's kind of the opposite of what I see a lot: people showing performances on demos and I'm thinking, 'that didn’t actually go down well', and they're going 'Look at the reactions!' But this is the opposite. At the end he's got a commentary of his performance. He's saying, 'Oh look at that, that didn't work very well.' And I'm looking at it going, 'Well I actually didn't notice that'. But that's just really, really useful to see, someone who's just honest. So as well as the book you get all these insights. The idea of getting misses I really like. You want those moments of 'Oh what a shame, he didn't quite get it,' and then at the end that relief of you actually getting it right is really powerful, a really lovely way to finish a routine. A real joy, this! And a real joy watching the video that came with it!" - Steve Faulkner, Real Magic |

Okay this is starting to get embarrassing. As Bree says, it's time to get out the big pin to deflate my ego. But come on, another rave review for Crossfire, this time from The Magic Portal. You can read the full piece here: http://themagicportal.us/html/crossfire.html or on the Tricks and Effects thread on the Café. Again, I pulled some quotes:
"I have become a big fan of Chris Philpott who has come up with some of the more creative things I have seen in the magic field. If you are familiar with 100th Monkey, you know exactly what I am talking about. So when I saw that Chris has now released his own book test, I couldn't wait. But it was worth the wait. The demo performance is from his first time appearing at the Magic Castle. You know the caliber of the other magicians he is up against. The climax on this had the audience absolutely screaming. Like everything Chris releases, I absolutely love this book test. The mechanics are simple and you will fool magicians with this one. The surprise ending alone is a reputation maker. This is highly recommended AND I DON'T THINK I COULD RECOMMEND SOMETHING MORE STRONGLY! [yeah, the all caps are mine. So whaddya gonna do about it?] If you do mentalism or book tests, you need this in your case!" -The Magic Portal Thanks, Magic Portal! |

Yeah, finally getting around to posting a few quotes from the review: "Book Tests are coming at us fast and furious these days, but the ones that try to take things to a new level are rare. Chris Philpott's new 'Crossfire Book Test' does just that, and I think it is a winner. The gimmicked book supplied here is much, much better than average. In performance, the kicker really plays." - John Lovick, Genii Magazine Thanks, John! |

New review out on Crossfire. I haven't read the whole thing, but Murphy's posted this quote:

I recently bought Crossfire, and have performed it twice in banquet settings. This is a great routine. I play it up as my first attempt at reading eight people at once. I ask them to work with me because "cold reading" (as I call it) is difficult to do with so many people at one time, and a lot of it works at the sub-conscious level. Sure enough I had some misses, but the audience was most sympathetic. They really were quite understanding. I believe most of them thought, "Well at least he tried." Then at the end, I remind them that a lot of mentalism works at the sub conscious level, and I show them the missed words. The audience reaction is simply fantastic when they realize they were had. Truly a great routine and great closer.
