There's many methods for this effect (magnetized wand and/or magnetized cane) that you can find.
I thinks that's somewhat an oldfashioned effect.
So you will have to look in old books.
You can find the basis of this version in Hoffman. There's no thread in this version, but You will have to use something else obviously.
