When I'm giving the balloons out at the end, (mine are pre-made) and while I'm packing away I always ask the kids what was there favourite part. That's when you find out it wasn't the amazing magic trick you took 6 months perfecting, but the wand that broke, or went bendy
one kid said his favourite part was Marmite eating the worm sandwich. This made me laugh as He doesn't eat it in the show, it's just something I say to fill in the quiet bit while I'm putting him away. I tell him, as I put him in his box, to tidy his room. I then tell the kids that last week he found a 6 month old marmite sandwich under his bed, full of maggots and worms, and he ate it. We all go uurrghhhh and then I carry on.

The hugs are nice, but in this day and age I try and avoid them, if they happen I always ensure I'm side on to the kid with my hands in full view. A simple mis-understanding in this day and age, could bring your career to an abrupt halt.

Clive is right. It may sound silly, but you can never be to safe and you can never be to sure who is just out there to try and make money off of you.

The best compliment I had was from a six-year old girl who didn't budge from her seat while I was packing up after a show. When she caught my eye, she said, "I love the show so much I have to see it again---now."

I've had the hugs, and the you're the best magician I've ever seen. One of the kids enjoyed the show so much he magically turned up at every public local show I performed at. He offered to set up chairs, keep the other kids back. This behaviour continued for half a dozen shows, then he finally must have outgrown it.
At another show for a school assembly, one autistic girl just seemed to pace at the back of the auditorium;however, after I packed up the show I found a single rose on one of my tables. One of the teachers told me it was the autistic girl who left the rose. I kept that rose , for it meant more than words could ever express. Darryl the Wizard

(One great thing about our job is that Shannon and I hear of touching stories like this quite frequently. We find that magic can make truly a difference in people’s lives. We are so thankful to be blessed with the opportunity to do what we love, and to help others achieve their goals. Not only do we get to help make events more fun, memorable, and successful, but sometimes the magic impacts in a way we never expected! Here is just one of many stories we have to tell...)
In August 2000, we received a phone call from the Teacher-Librarian at an elementary school here on Vancouver Island, who asked if we would come to their school and present our Magic of Reading Show, for their students and the students. Our customer had heard that our assembly show could help their students become more enthusiastic about reading. We spent a bit of time finding out her school’s needs before recommending this show, and then set a date for September 19, 2000. The show went well, and was enthusiastically received by staff and students alike. However, we were also told the following after the show, which was written later in a reference letter we received: Quote:
My Class came away from your magic show with huge smiles on their faces. I am sure most of the books about magic were checked out of our school library the next day. I've left the customer's name and the school name out of this post for the sake of anonymity. In this case, the compliment was from the teacher and the other staff at that school, but it was a doozey! Isn't magic cool! The first time this child laughs in more than 4 years, and it because of our show. Wow! - Donald.

I do that with a balloon flower, for the birthday child to give the mom at birthday parties only.
Saw it published in a Genii Magazine or a Magic Manuscript Magazine article back in the 1980's. The author of the article or column at the time was Tom Ogden. - Donald.

I think it would be nicer with a real rose although more costly, do you just do it for the younger kids
