The 'Magicain Wins Every Time' by Steven Daniels is a pretty cheap coin trick at $3.95 but you have to buy your own double sided coin (this is mentioned in the blurb for the trick so I'm not giving anything away by mentioning it). My question is, if you have to buy something extra, is it worth the cost?

Most of the effects you purchase in magic are going to require you to add something in order to perform them. What you're really buying is the secret. That's why books are such a good value, they contain pages and pages of secrets. Many older books also give instructions for making any required apparatus. You then go out and buy what you need. The advantage of this is if something breaks or wears out. You can make another. I think you'll find several uses for a double sided coin. It would be a good investment if you're interested in learning magic.

My questions - where is the magic?

Most definitely. You can get double sided coins fairly cheap in a lot of places. And the good news is next time you get a trick that requires a double sided coin, you're one step ahead.

Is it worth it? No one can tell you if it is worth it to you. We all have different tastes in life, food, cars, etc. Everyone has different values. What one person thinks is expensive another thinks it is cheap, and other person thinks it is total junk.
Then you run across a person that actually invested in the effect. They perform it for you and others. You think it is a true miracle. You wish you had purchased it for $3.95. You go to the website, it says "Out OF Stock". Not other feeling set in, you have to have it. You search the Internet. You post on Café, where is this fabulous trick you read months earlier. No one responds. You feel you have missed an opportunity of a life time. OR, you see the trick being performed by another magician, you laugh to yourself. Boy, am I glad I did not buy that piece of junk. It is your decision, we will not give you the opportunity to blame us or the Café for good or bad advice. |

For those who believe, no explanation is necessary; for those who do not believe, no explanation will suffice.
