Hmm... it seems there are many ways to do retention vanishes and many variations.
After looking into it more, I've discovered many, from the OG David Roth retention, to Michael Rubenstein and other magician's variations, to the "Ukawa retention". I guess I'll spend time slowly learning each one. One step at a time... am I right? |

Try several. Discard the ones that don't suit you. Practice what you're most likely to use.

Are you looking to add the retention of vision to a routine or just want something pretty where you imedietly open your hand to reveal the coin is gone?
...to all the coins I've dropped here

The Encyclopedia of Coin Sleights dvd series has my retention pass, itself based on Schneider 's Snap back vanish. It also shows thw Krenzel retention pass, the first to use the thumb and the precursor to all of that genre. It has the Zarrow pass, which I understand is very similar to ones published by Steve Freeman and John Cornelious. And it has the R.O.P.S. technique as well. The download costs 35 bucks for the 3 vol set at Vanishingincmagic.com. best buy in magic for what you get. Btw, it is my series, but I sold the righrs long ago, so no profit motive in sharing the info.
S.E.M. (The Sun, the Moon, and the Earth) is a sun and moon routine unlike any other. Limited to 100 sets, here is the promo:

It's funny because without knowing it was "a thing", I used the exact same sequence as a means of practicing when I started seriously practicing with coins, as I described (somewhat badly) to Dick in a post from July last year, quoted below. (It's the last paragraph.) Quote:

Still have Mickey's VHS tapes he would mail out, just for the asking. Although he doesn't tip his hand so to speak it is a joy to watch, even on VHS, he is just amazing!
