Recently was selected to do an Ignite talk in Seattle. The format is 20 powerpoint slides each timed to advance at 15 seconds, so total talk is 5 minutes.
At past conferences I've done Pecha Kucha (Japanese for "chit-chat") presentations. Those are 20 slides at 20 seconds each, for 6 minutes, 40 seconds. For those who like public speaking it's a fun thing to do. Most major cites host either Pecha Kucha nights or Ingite Talks. Here are some websites: https://www.pechakucha.com/ http://www.ignitetalks.io/

Are you given a topic (or range of topics), or are you free to choose what you'll present?
Either way, it sounds like fun. Johnny Ace Palmer fun. |

For the Ignite talk you have to submit a topic of your choosing. I took a speech I've used in Toastmasters about a time while in the Air Force I thought I crashed two aircraft that were under my radar control
Most of the events you have to submit a proposal, they will sometimes have a theme they want topics to relate to. At some events, you show up and put your name in a hat. If selected you present. If not, you sit out. That's pretty crappy as it takes some effort to put one of these together. But they are lots of fun.

The Ignite Seattle talk was last week, and a lot of fun. Some great speeches (there was a guy that lived 32 days in a billboard, another that 'world schooled' his family of three kids...travelled the world for a year with only 1 backpack each). And there was mine. If anyone's interested, here is the link...

That was fascinating, Craig! Gripping as well as humorous. And very well presented.
