What do you know about Magician's Tokens??? F. William Kuethe Jr. placed his 41 pages about magic tokens in the hands of the TAMS (Token and medal Society) for printing. They made it a supplement to one of their regular monthly TAMS Journal publications in October 1978. Kuethe's magic token listing has numbers assigned to the tokens in alpha numeric sequence. The supplement was never updated after it's initial publication, although Kuethe did print 2 differently bound versions to sell (hard cover and soft cover). That was over 40 years ago. There is now a new magician's token reference that leaves Kuethe's original numbering system in place but has the addition of .000 to each numbered item for the purpose of adding new content without messing up the Kuethe numbering. The book is Magic Tokens, it is made available for FREE and in the form of a searchable PDF file. The book can be downloaded to your computers desktop to facilitate faster opening and faster searches. Magic Tokens is not locked in ANY way BUT it is copy-written material that is published and available in print via Amazon if anyone desires a printed copy to sit on their bookshelf. The book Magic Tokens is available from the website http://www.magictoken.org . I had no idea where, specifically to place this information because The Magic Café' has a billion different areas. I thought I would start here.... Have a Wonderful Day ! ! !

A Magic/Magician's Token is anything that resembles a coin type object, made from materials that range from wood to gold and everything in between, used by a Magician in the performance of his act / to advertise himself and his act / is specifically made to represent a commemoration to a Magician or represents a place or event of Magic such as a Magicians' group (SAM/IBM/The Magic Castle). Sometimes it's an actual numismatic Item (coin) which in some cases is counterstamped with something that associates it with a Magician. Then again, when I made that statement of definition to David Copperfield his reply was “I think it’s more than just that”, to which I cannot definitively disagree. Have you ever seen a manufactured palming coin like Abbotts, Martinka, Adams, Mysto? Have you seen an IBM or SAM commemorative token?
Cortini had a different token for each venue he performed at with the location and dates, as a means of advertising. I have Magic Tokens in my collection that range in size from 10MM to 170MM. The smaller items are stored in 2x2 coin flips and sit in jewelers trays with the larger items being stored/displayed in display cabinets. Click here to view attached image. |
