It is very sad news that one of the finest sleight of hand, manipulation performers has passed on this morning at a care facility in Las Vegas.
Norm was a kind and gentle man whose act reached for perfection and he delivered masterful and artistic magic on the world's great stages for 50 years. Unassuming and shy, he was loved and admired by generations of magicians... like Nate Leipzig, he was liked by everyone! He built quality props (when time permitted) for many years as well, and in his later years, became one of magic's great poster collectors. He was 86 years old when he died from Alzheimer's disease. He will be missed. Our deep condolences to Lupe' who gave him so much love these past 25 years.

Very sad to read of Norm Nielsen's passing. My condolences to Lupe and to his daughters.
And condolences to all in the magic community who knew him well , or only knew him casually ... or who have benefited in some way from the quality products he put out (and how he consistently put the art of magic in a good light) so that includes almost everyone with more than a passing interest in magic. He made some gorgeous apparatus ... and the poster collection and reproductions ! Superb. Alzeimer's is the worst. It steals time away from people that could have had many more happy and productive years. (My Dad had been suffering with Alzheimer's for the past 8 years. He passed away earlier this year.) Another great loss to the magic world. I learned a lot early on using his manipulation cards and palming coins. I still keep a bottle of fanning powder handy too. His magic was inspirational. Condolences to his family and may he rest in peace.

Deeply saddened to hear this. I was fortunate enough some years ago to visit Norm and Lupe at their home in Las Vegas and see Norm's amazing collection of magic posters. It was like a small museum in his backyard. A really kind, gentle, and decent man. He will be greatly missed.

Jeff Hobson posted an interview with Norm Nielsen on his video network yesterday. It was made some time ago, but you can see the man's personality. Several times I tried to speak with the man at magic conventions, but he would not appear friendly and not talk at all, even though I purchased almost all of his products.
If you are signed up with Jeff Hobson, then you will get a unique look at the man behind the magic. Strongly suggest you take a look at this talented man. He designed a wonderful magic act, so unique it made him stand out above every magician on the planet. |

Gone but not forgotten.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXk1KWVJkB0 I met him back in 1993 at the Hollywood Magic Castle. He was having brunch with Peter Pit. Very easy to approach and a kind human being. |

Extremely friendly! Maybe he was just tired of the dealer room scene. I can see that if you're not a gung-ho salesman who enjoys the hustle, it could get tedious several times per year, year after year. |

Norm was such a wonderful and original performer. Always a highlight.
Rest in peace Norm.

I'll always treasure his portrait on my (several) sets of Norm Nielsen flesh colored manipulation cards. Holding them now. Condolences to Lupe and family. Lynn

I went to my first magic convention around 1977 or 78, up in Galion, Ohio. My mom drove me and a friend up to Galion for the day. I remember seeing the stage contests in the morning, and spending maybe $20 from the dealers. But, what I remember the most is Norm Nielsen on the headliner show that night. I was in awe seeing this sharp-dressed man, with flowing white hair, plucking coins from the air and putting them on the coin ladder. And, then the floating violin. My mom still remembers seeing him after all these years. Years later I'd see Norm working his dealer booth, and of course he looked like a regular guy, and not that mesmerizing figure I remembered as a kid. Great memories of seeing him at that first convention, and then others throughout the years.
