After the spectator inserts a number of cards into the box, the performer takes the rest of the deck in order to take out the spectator’s thought-of card. Here’s my point – the performer could easily count the cards in the deck to determine how many cards are in the box. I can do it in 10-12 seconds while going through the deck. I know that’s not what the performer does (or is supposed to do). But the spectator might come up with this solution regarding how the performer knows the value of the thought-of card and go home thinking they figured out the secret. In fact, that’s what I thought Bannon was doing when I saw him perform it for the first time. How would you solve this?

Have the spec return the counted cards to the middle of the deck before taking it back. That step also eliminates some or all of the “contingencies”.

To fix that number stronger in their mind so that you can get a good sense of it. Granted, it is somewhat weak, but it works.

By the way, is there any data regarding whether males/females are statistically more likely to choose red/black (or vice versa) cards?

Pressure fan the deck and remove the thought of card. While you could conceivably count the cards in a pressure fan, to the spectator a stationary pressure fan is less likely to look like you are counting compared to running through the deck one by one or in small blocks. This of course requires you to be able to do a clean pressure fan that allows you to see all the cards but I think it is worth it as a convincer.

But now you are demonstrating advanced sleight of hand ability, which may be fine for some, perhaps not for some mentalist magicians.
Just a thought. I don't dislike the idea. |

You can perform "Think and Sync" instead: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MgSPL5zDv3Y
Or just use its presentation/justification and follow the ejohn's suggestion. Or, even better, you can perform "Think of One" by Allan Kronzek, my favorite version right now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1i_v-WMLpIU Please read this thread for some comparisons and more suggestions: https://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/view......start=32 https://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/view......orum=206
What would a real mindreader do?
