The fastest way to truth is to look to nature. All birth into nature requires a crossing of opposites. We symbolize multiplication with the sign of a cross: X). Cross fire and water and you get smoke/mist; Cross female and male and you get an individual; Cross the incredible assertion with the credible experiment and you get a dilemma.
The X fittingly symbolises our magic in different ways; Speed in presentation, the balance between entertainment and magic, for instance, can be represented by the two equal and opposite lines of the X and this balance produces whole-brain satisfaction. The X crossing can be used to visualize the process of misdirection perhaps where a negative hides a positive action.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

The paradox of life and death is that it is death that supports life; as everybody who has seen the Lion King knows. This is yet another X factor at play. Cutting a women in two and then restoring her, is symbolic of this life and death crossing of opposites, perhaps.
Paradox; a seemingly absurd or contradictory statement or proposition which when investigated may prove to be well-founded or true.

Gregory Bateson used to say that when you cross two differing perspectives, even if they only differ slightly, you can get a completely unexpected result.
One of his favorite examples was vision--get two slightly different perspectives from each eye, and voila!--you get 3D, something that could not be conceived, never mind predicted, by a creature without two eyes, slightly separated, pointing in the same direction.

Thanks, Jack.
Three-dimensional illusions are created in art by the crossing of opposite lines; perspective, vanishing points, cross equations and all that. In reality, paintings are only two dimensional but they look three dimensional.

The magician creates a sort vanishing point by crossing the irrational assertion with the rational fact of the magic. It becomes irrational and rational at the same time. The X point, where the two opposites meet in the middle, would represent that vanishing point, or paradox point, the magic moment.
Our Magic, in reality, is only two dimensional but it appears to be three dimensional.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.
