Hi All. This is a tough question regarding Regal Aces in At the Card Table. Probably, only those who are well-acquainted with it will know what I am writing about.
On page 103, at the end of the first paragraph, the selected card is "placed face down on the bottom of the packet...." However, at the end of the second paragraph it states "At this point, the selected card is second from the bottom of the five-card packet." I've read these paragraphs numerous times but cannot figure out how the selected card goes from the bottom to second from the bottom. I cannot determine if I am just an incompetent newbie or if there is a mistake of some sort in the text. Maybe a step left out, or some printing error. Any HELP would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Ted,
Yes, there is a mistake in the text. If you reverse the chosen card on top of the pack (rather than reversing to the bottom), then do the fanning action displaying four cards (the selection being the back card of the double that appears to be the top card of the fan), then reverse count the cards (starting with the double), the selection will end up in the required position (second from bottom). |

Hi Ted,
Tilman beat me to it and is right, I checked both the book and Mr. Ortiz´ DVD performance and that is exactly his handling, turning the chosen card face down ON TOP of the packet! Then the Krenzel-Pressure-Hide-Out. All the best, Axel |

Tilman and Axelchen, thank you, thank you, and thank you. I knew something was amiss. Of course, my cover pass still stinks...but at least I can read!! Thanks so much. It really is a nice trick. I sent Darwin Ortiz a PM, but I doubt he will answer. You guys saved the day. Now this is the Café at its best!
By the way Axelchen, how is the DVD set? Worth it?

Hi Ted,
Tilman solved the problem, but ...my pleasure! I am sure that Mr. Ortiz will answer, he is a class act and a real gentleman so I am sure about that! (but he is also very busy, I believe...). All of Mr. Ortiz´s products, all books (I have them all ever snce they came out) and all DVD´s (I think I have them all...) are top-notch, excellent produced and the material is very well constructed, entertaining and magical! I think you call such a no-brainer, get them. I found the routine on Darwin Ortiz At The Card Table by L&L....but as magicfish would say (and I am with him...): get the books! All the best, Axel |

Thanks again Axel. At least the DVDs would not have textual errors. I did some searching and Vol. 1 of the 3 DVD set is very hard to get. Take care.

Hi Ted,
...I know that is a lot of money on the first sight...but you get here most of the contest of three books (!)n ...including Regal Aces...https://llepub.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=7_4_17&products_id=116&zenid=aqu2pr46ibq35rh99thkiteib2 but you have At The Card-Table, ok with small error that could have been solved if you would have taken a break and played with Mr. Ortiz´ s further handling to display the chosen card four times...so it must (!) end second from the bottom to perform the further handling...so this wouldhave been a starting point to understand the handling! Have fun with the routine, you both have deserved it! Axel |

I have the Darwin Ortiz collection. Not cheap but well worth it. And it includes Regal Aces.

The DVD set has an updated handling on Hitchcock Aces that is far superior (also in Nothing But the Best dvd set), as well as improved handling of Back Off. Otherwise its really the same as in the book, but good to see the man do his own material. |

Hi everyone,
I actually learned Michael Vincent's version of Regal Aces before I learned Ortiz's version. Since I am a big fan of Ortiz's way of thinking, I wanted to know how he handled the effect (especially whether he got the selection signed, like MV). When I finally saw a performance of Ortiz's version, I was disappointed. I think that MV's handling surpasses Ortiz's, and I recommend that you check it out on his DVD set called "Elegant Deceptions." He calls his version "Back to the Future." If you do learn that version, I'm curious to know whether you end the trick as MV does or prefer Ortiz's ending? |

More than than, it's MV's way of changing the selections which stands out.
