THE TRICK: http://www.penguinmagic.com/product.php?ID=486
THE NUTSHELL: ONE OF THE MOST PATHETIC PURCHASES I HAVE EVER MADE. THE REVIEW: Blink will be one of my shorter reviews. I got it, I didn’t like it. I stuck with it and practiced it, I didn’t like it. I put it away for a while and brought it out again, I didn’t like it. This is at the bottom of the barrel folks. If it is part of your routine, you are insulting the great history of sleight of hand. If you are using it, because you don’t think sleight of hand can match up to it, for god’s sake buy a book. Get the Instant Download snap change. Get the Art of Astonishment Book One. Do a double lift, a glide, anything! Some people lock themselves to books and videos and refuse all gimmicked magic. Others depend solely on gimmicks to get their magic done. I stand in the middle. However, I feel that Blink is the reason why the people that lock themselves to books and videos do so. I used Blink once, to test it out, and will never use it again. Not only is it overly gimmicky, but it is of cheap quality. You better wash your hands for fifteen minutes before doing this, or after two trials the gimmick will stand out so obviously, you’ll be lucky if you don’t get caught doing it five feet away from the spectator. Reluctantly, I give you a pro of this effect: The card changes in a flash, very visually, when you get away with it. I do not recommend this product, nor do I recommend many of the other products from the JB Magic Store. I give it a 1. |

NO BLINK IS GREAT !! I bought it about two years ago and thought just like you. I realized you need to keep the gimmick on the bottom of your deck Now Riffle F**** the card you will need to change in a BLINK. Place the card you F***** in the middle of the deck tell the spectatot it will jump to the bottom of the deck on your command. OPPS ! They will reply that is not my card. Now for the MAGIC ! REMIND THEM NOT TO BLINK ! PRESTO the card changes to the selection. All you need to do is shake the deck and the card changes !
Try it you will love it. Keep your thumb across the gaff. SHAKE & get your thumb out of the way at the same time. Let me know how it works for you. Also by keeping your thumb layed across the card they will not see YOU KNOW WHAT. |

But why not just substitute it for a gimmickless equally convincing change?

Lewis the change is great! one handed that would be very hard to do with a sleight . Unless it was real magic . I agree the gimmick is great and very well made.

Blink is a great effect. I have been using it for a year or so and gets me great (screaming) reactions.

Blink is a winner. The wear and tear factor is the only downside.

I think magic trainor should stop throwing his toys out his pram. are you working for one of j.b's rivals or something. lol.not bein funny but its a great change, if you can match that change with sleight of hand then ile take back all of what iv sed tap you on the back and say congrats to you. until that day (which will never come anyway) blink still rules all. o and its £8.00 it hardly breaks the bank does it. and if they see you or catch you out then you cant do it.,thats all there is to it. read the instructions I'm sure you;ll find that it says cover the line with your thumb. .. so they cant see it.

In all 8 of these posts you are either defending a JB product or simply heaping praise on one of them. In every single post you've made in the last month! Other people are entitled to opinions on products man. I just don't see why you feel you have to jump in and start defending products that, as far as we know, are not of your creation. For the record, I've worked with Mark Mason a couple of times and he's released a couple of my effects. I've always found him pleasant and have nothing against him or his products. I just feel these forums should have some sort of balance of opinion, not just continuous praise of products and telling people they are wrong for thinking otherwise. Even Ron Jaxon's new VCR came under fire when you told everyone that it was a rip off of Mark Mason's 'Drawn Out'. Didn't Mark himself agree that the methods where different? I'm sure I read something about that on Sean Bogunias website. If Mark doesn't think there's a problem, why should you? Do yourself a favour. Have a read of your signature and take your own advice. Lol... I can actually see where your coming from dave. I havent got jb fever or anything its just the posts iv come across are of the tricks I have experience and knowledge with so therefore have a good basis to pass my opinion on,.i see that the tricks I have discussed up to now have been j.b products, the reason for this is I buy off them and am happy with there service and products, so I buy them, and as I said before are the ones iv come accross in the forum first .. . yes they have some bad effects that I wish I hadnt bought but if you'd of given me chance (seein as I signed up to the Café yesterday not the past month) I was about to praise/reccomend/ give opinions on other tricks. as for V.C.R.. I was expressing my own opinion not that of mark mason, seein as I am not pshycic, I wudnt know what he thought of it. p.s I still stand by my own opinion that I belive it isn't different enough from drawn out.
p.p.s my signiture means that if you do not have a product or no nothing about it.. do not slag it off. hope that answers your worries dave.

It is a great effect on TV.
And Henry Evans has a effect using 2 of them, it is of course a winner. Use it in the right way, and you will be the winner.

I saw Blink at my local magic shop and absolutely refused to buy it. Brand new, out of the box, the gimmick did not look natural. As much as he tried, the guy behind the counter couldn't make the moves look natural either. After having purchased many of J.B.'s effects, I realized that this was a trend in many of their products (Just my personal opinion, and I apologize in advance to anyone who thinks differently).
In addition, this effect goes against my thought processes concerning changes. Personally, I don't like to do a change as an obvious effect in and of itself. I think changes are most powerful when they are incorporated into larger routines or used subtley. For this reason, one of the most jaw-dropping, versatile changes I use is the Erdnase colour change. For effects similar to Blink, you might also want to consider the wink change or the window change (both taught in Jeff McBride's Art of Card Manipulation).

I agree that the card doesn't look right. Maybe if you perform this from a distance, but I do most of my work close up, and this wouldnt pass for close up at all.

The Snap Change is a better quality change and it doesn't use gimmicks. Just angle problems, but still great.
