Can anyone tell me who gets credit for the version of "Jumping Jacks" that uses four Jacks, each with a different back design, plus a double-backed, red-blue Bicycle? The trick is described on a DVD put out by Magic Makers called Packet Killers which features instruction by Simon Lovell, but I can't find any reference to who originated the effect.

James Swain has a routine called “Capitulating Queens” that has that same set up but with Queens instead of Jacks. I had a set of Jacks for the effect that I don’t remember where I got them (probably threw it together myself). I believe it is based on an earlier effect called “All the Non Conformists” by Michael Skinner I think. That is as far back as I know.

Many thanks to Poof-Daddy for this information! I detest having to list "Unknown" as a source for effects I like.

So is Jumping Jacks an uncredited knockoff (ripoff) of Capitulating Queens? Seems I've heard unsavory things about Magic Makers and copyright or proper crediting before...

Here is the full list with the newer packaging. It was a deal with Simon Lovell and Magic Makers:

Although JJ seems to be based on, and is similar to CQ, I would argue that these are really two different tricks.
While both tricks use the same gaff card they use different sleights throughout. JJ only shows the different backs once at the very end, while CQ shows different backs throughout the trick and at the end. All in all, CQ is a vastly superior trick. |
