Is there a way to get a dove to stop cooing as much?

In my years of experience I have had them in my Arizona Room, outdoors, indoors, covered, uncovered, cool, humid, etc.....I have tried various living conditions.
There is no way to force them to be quiet. It is in their nature to "COO" when they sleep. Perhaps they are dreaming? |

ReyRey is correct. I have 18 birds in my garage and sometimes they coo for hours, and other times they are quiet as a mouse. It's what doves do. Unless you have them in the room with you, it really shouldn't be too much of a noise. Imagine the sound of 18. Or better yet, imagine the sound that Bob Sanders has with over 100 birds.

Hi Majimagic
Male birds are much noisier than females....I just keep female doves and they hardly make any noise at all. Regards Scott |

Reducing the amount of light helps. Total darkness will stop it. If they can see light, cooing is their job!
Good luck! Be grateful they aren't parrots. Bob Magic By Sander |

I have lovebirds as well. They sound much worse than parrots. They high pitched squark really hurts the ears.

Matt,
We understand that! Lucy and I live with a Quaker Parrot named Dobbie from Harry Potter. We should rename him Ear Pains. We wake up to the pleasant sound of doves and hope that Dobbie sleeps late. But usually he expects a raisin as soon as he knows we are awake. Noise is his job! Bob Magic By Sander |

Coo'ing is a mating call ... do you have a female dove for the male?
They will also Coo when they need food or water ... or maybe they want your attention. They may coo when their cage is dirty. I found that in general, when a dove Coo's ... they want something. Try to figure out what they want, and they will stop. For example, my dove started Coo'ing like crazy once. They were sitting on some eggs, and when I put a biggest nest in the cage for them, they stopped coo'ing. The orginal nest I made them was too small and uncomfortable.
