I did not post this question for a back and forth on what is easier or better. I just wanted more experienced people's opinions on the sleights/deals I am in the process of learning. When I say process, I mean LONG process
Thanks guys! Mike |

Rannie, I find that when I perform the "stress" for performing keeps my thumb moist enough to do false deals. However, when I know I'll have to do a lot of second deals, I'll take a spongeball, moisten it and put it in a place where I can easily reach it. For example, when I deal a bust-out blackjack game, I put the ball at my side of the table, behind the chip tray. It's totally acceptable that my hands go there when I need them to.

I am trying to learn the hit method for the bottom deal but there is always a flash of my left fingers. Has anyone any advice?
Thanks |

Sit in front of a mirror and do the deal in slow motion. You'll see what fingers really cause the flash and from there you just have to work on it I guess. Just practice your deal and keep remembering to keep those fingers where they are. Your brains will catch up with your fingers and before you realize, they don't flash anymore
That's the way it was when I practiced.

I think it depends on who teaches you. I learnt the bottom first from Expert Card Technique but could never do a second expertly from their instruction, and this was over a long time practicing. When I got the Marlow Cardicion DVD he taught me the second very quickly and I found it easy. I have not even tried to learn a middle yet, It looks like the most difficult and seems least used even by them who have got it. This might be because the middle might be the least deceptive of the three deals.

I learned bottom dealing first (I myself think it looks pretty good, but have no one to tell me whether I'm doing it correctly or not). I learned a strike bottom deal, based on instruction and tips in ECT, Card Control, Phantom, and marlo.
Bottom dealing is easier than second dealing according to phantom, and I agree. I put of learning second dealing because I didn't follow good instructions (I tried to learn from Daryl's encyclopedia). Then I tried learning the method in card control, and I was able to second deal. I've always wanted to learn center dealing, but its so hard to get into some of the grips used. Right now, I'm doing a strike second and a strike bottom, but want to learn push off false deals, cause I hear they look better. However, in bottom dealing, my grip isn't strong enough to allow for the push off, and I cant do double push offs reliably and fast enough to deal seconds that way. |

In my own opinion the
Bottom Deal is the easiest, the 2nd deal is fairly easy, and the Center deal is a killer! I can't do it! any suggestions? |

Peter Woerde, do you do those deals in a casino or privately?

I don't think that's in a casino, as you are not allowed to bring spongeballs to the table...

Hey Slakk,
I do those deals in private games and only for entertainment purposes. Actually, the lay-out on my blackjack table says "Cheating Blackjack Dealer", so most people that come play know that I cheat. Trickster2000, I have never been banned from a casino for bringing sponge balls . Peter |

"On one of his videos, Martin Nash suggested the use of "sort quick" on the thumb. It helps out TREMENDOUSLY. I highly recommend it."
Dave If this is not a joke, can someone tell me quickly what a "Sort Quick" is?

I have some SortKwik. It's available at office supply stores around here. A bank teller, for example, might use it to keep their fingers moist while counting. It adds a certain amount of tackiness to the finger tips. It does indeed make strike false deals a fair bit easier, if you have dry hands. It costs a buck or two.
There are numerous preparations that can be applied to the hands to aid in palming, false deals, etc. You can read up on this in Oulett's "Close Up Illusions"; he includes a couple of tips like that in the book. Don't dismiss this as a trivial idea: I'd wager a good number of advanced cardmen use this sort of thing. It does help, though it's important to be able to do this stuff without the aids too.
