I don't think the issue is whether you happen to have the "something extra", but whether you can actually perform the trick as shown. If you introduce a deck of cards, remove them from the box, place the box on the table and proceed as shown...then what? And while there's always a logical way to ring in a different deck when necessary, how/when/why ring in the card box? Under real world performance conditions, I think placing the photo in the spectator's hand is the best option. I wish the demo video would have shown the trick that way. You don't lose much and it's a lot more honest.
"Do you like card tricks?" he asked.
I said no. He did five. |

Oh believe me I understand the view that what you see in a trailer is what you should be able to perform. In fact that is the reason I mentioned it because I want people to know that you cannot perform this as shown on the video and I am definitely against that but my point is this is a good effect and can be done in the hands but I think it does throw off the method if you could use a deck of playing cards to Simply put the photo down on. But I am pretty happy with this purchase itself. I also feel it would have been nice to include the little extra something at an additional price but then again who knows how much that would have bump the price up?

In short, I don’t like it and I imagine you will see people selling theirs. The method is old and heavily reliant on the environment. If you perform in a hot climate, potentially problematic. If you perform in a cold climate, potentially problematic. If you want to perform in the spectator’s hands, you have to ensure the spectator’s hands are warm. Cold hands? Forget about it. Can you carry it everyday in your wallet so you can perform at a moment’s notice? Maybe. Depends on how warm your wallet is with body heat. Just too many factors to consider for what is, at best, an ok effect. Once you’ve seen what you can do with Rainbow and this style of polaroid picture, it’s really hard to go back to this old, finicky technology. The only really reliable way to use this is with the card box and as others have pointed out, that requires a separate purchase of something you won’t have lying around the house and it will require a box switch potentially. Again, too much effort for a mediocre effect. Just using the out to lunch principle with some pics of houdini would be easier, cheaper and much stronger

Those are all good points that you raised. I have performed this four times now and have not run into those particular situations as far as temperature wise but you made me think and definitely be a little more prepared for it. I also think I will use your advice with the deck presentation it would seem to be more reliable especially with cooler weather coming. So thank you!

Here’s another issue. The image doesn’t last long at all. I counted slowly and the image starts to fade at 10 seconds. Gone by 15 seconds. So good luck when people want to examine it. U better switch it out fast for the ungimmicked pic or you’ll get a secondary effect of the vanishing card. I really don’t like this effect at all.

For those of you who have this and use it I would highly recommend the extra piece to put in the deck box it makes this a whole bunch easier and definitely more Surefire. So far it's gone over pretty well but I've only used it like four times. I think part of the reason I enjoy this so much is I was hoping the gimmick was the method I was thinking it was and I was pleasantly surprised to find that's exactly how it worked. But like I said we all have our different likes and dislikes.
