I’ve narrowed it down to a few. Really was hoping for a Lassen set.
Any pros or cons for sets you own? Anyone want to part with a walking liberty Lassen set? |

In my opinion nothing surpasses a Dean’s Set in Walking Liberty (Schoolcraft).
However, I get a ton of mileage out of my Johnson set. Been doing coins across with it for over twenty years. |

For clad, Johnson can never steer you wrong. For silver, deans set if you have the ability/funds. If not, Mason, Johnson, lassen, Davies, Kueppers and Schoolcraft are all decent. Johnson and Mason are the best bang for the buck honestly. My personal sets that get used the most are made by Schoolcraft and my current favorite deans set is a dokkum set. If you can find anything by dokkum, it’s comparable to lassen.

How does Tango rate? Haven't seen 'em in a while.

My very first expanded shell was by Tango, and I suppose it was workable albeit a bit sloppy and not great coverage. As soon as I got a Johnson shell the difference was obvious, and then so on and so forth with Schoolcraft etc.

I have products from Lassen, Schoolcraft, Mason, Keuppers and Johnson.
If you want perfect at a price and you can wait, then Lassen.. but nowadays I hear you have to be very patient.. The Schoolcraft and Mason sets that I have are very nice and the ones I have seem to be pretty close to on par with each other (Walking Liberties). Keuppers shells I have are also nice and the price is reasonable, other folks seem to have had issues ordering direct but all my stuff came through magic shops and has been fine. I have a number of Johnson products and they are very good for the price..I did get a locking Scotch and Soda set from them that has a wobble and never really locked very well but I have a lot of their stuff and that is the only one with an issue. They do have a life time guarantee. |
