I bought the card effect called "Joker, Joker." Really haven't done much with that. However, there is an additional effect included in the instructions called "The Los Angeles Open". This is a GREAT prediction effect using the same deck of supplied cards. Here's how it goes.
You freely show the faces of the deck of cards to be all different and mixed up. After turning the deck facedown, you announce a prediction. Let's say you say to the spectator, "In a moment, you are going to select a card from this facedown deck, and it will be the Five of Clubs." At this point, you spread the deck face down on the table and have them touch any card they like. They keep their finger on their card while you take all the facedown cards ABOVE their selection, turn them face up, and then set them down (still faceup!) onto the spectator's selected card. You go through the face up cards looking for the Five of Clubs (which, as it's your prediction, it won't be there). Once you've run through all the faceup cards, you are left with the first facedown card of the rest of the deck, which is the card the spectator selected a moment ago by having had their finger on it. You remove it and place it facedown onto the faceup cards you just looked through. The remaining facedown cards are turned face up and freely run through in search of the Five of Clubs. It is not found. Those faceup cards are then placed faceup onto the spectator's facedown card thus "sandwiching" their facedown card into the middle of a faceup deck. You then turn the whole deck over and ribbon spread the deck to find their card now faceup in an otherwise facedown deck. Their card turns out to be the Five of Clubs!! This effect is very easy to do and requires no sleight of hand whatsoever (a plus in my book!). If you are daring, you can even have the whole effect take place in the spectator's hands -- the clearly written instructions tell you how to do this. This is a great effect, super-easy to do, and is a real baffler. On a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the best, I'd give this card effect a solid 5. |

I bought mine at Brad Burt's Magic Shop here in San Diego, CA several months ago for about $10.
The effect is listed on his website. Do a search to find it. Here is a link to his website: http://www.magicshop.com/ Here is the official ad copy for this effect, which also details how the effect "Joker, Joker" is done: "Good opening effects are hard to find-even more so when they're self-working and leave an examinable deck. The devious method behind Gordon's Joker Joker will bring a smile to your lips, and its direct, inexplicable effect will produce gasps from your audience. You start by saying you must first remove the Jokers from the deck. After taking out the first one, you decide to let a spectator find the other, with the cards face down. Despite having multiple chances to stop or move on, and without a single false move on your part, the spectator stops on a card. It's turned over, and it's the second Joker! No other Jokers are in the deck and the pack may be examined! Also Includes...The Los Angeles Open-perhaps the most baffling version of the Open Prediction ever released. After a card has been announced as a prediction, and with the deck in her own hands, a spectator deals cards face up until she wishes to stop. At this point, she deals a card face down, then deals the rest of the cards face up. The openly predicted card doesn't show up, and the spectator herself spreads the deck to see the only card she left face down was the performer's prediction! Comes complete with 8-page, fully photo-illustrated instructions and the necessary cards specially printed by the U.S. Playing Card Co." The effect "Joker, Joker" by Gordon Bean is published by MagicLab. Hope this information helps! |

I agree with hoodrat, the "also effect" of the Joker, Joker purchase is, IMH, by far the better of the two! In other words, The Los Angles Open is worth the cost of Joker, Joker.
In fact, this is the only effect I've ever sold, thought better of it (because of what I learned after-the-fact about the Los Angeles Open) and then bought a "replacement" Joker, Joker! |
