Hummm,I went to my favorite magic shop and bought a Himber wallet, only to discover it was not the self loading card wallet I had wanted, but something completely different, that I have no idea what to do with. The instruction manual which was pretty short and sweet, describes it as a wallet that can perform switches and multiple predictions then goes on to outline an effect called the no palming card to wallet, which it seems would involve taking the card off the top of the deck and for no reason putting it in the wallet and saying something along the lines of "is this your card? No..... hummm let me put it in my wallet, oh well I guess I have got the trick wrong, here you can have the contents of the wallet, out look there's your card"
I think the main problem with this is that the spectator just might want to have a closer look at the wallet. I know this prop has great potential, anyone have anything to say about it. |

Check out Lorayne's book on the Himber Wallet. There are more ideas in there about using the Himber Wallet than one can use in a lifetime. With a good routine (the wallet becomes secondary to the effect), the desire for the spectator to examine the wallet should be minimal.

They are also really great to hide trickcards in Packet-tricks.
For example: When I do 3 Card Monte by skinner, after the last effect, I put them in my himberwallet. When they're really upset and want to see the cards, I just re-open the wallet, but this time, of course from the other side (where I have loaded the duplicates from the trickcards). Now they can look at the cards forever...

I have for years owned a very thin Himmber Wallet with was made by Ray Piatt. I believe this was marketed as Psi-Grafico or something like that. It's a Q & A routine that's very powerful. The beauty of it is that you are able to give the sitter the exact index card back that they wrote on, after you do a little "hand-writing analysis", of course.
Self concept is destiny..

Mogwai, I do the exact same thing but with NFW and another ace packet that I use. It works great and sends them home with a damaged mind!

I think you have a great effect with a Himber Wallet in Paul Gertners lecture notes: Photo Copy.

Acehigher,
I'm concerned that your favourite magic shop sold you an item which clearly has not met your requirements. There are other wallets available which may have been more suited to what you require right now. With regard to Himber wallets, I own the "Bendix Bombshell" Himber wallet (designed by Dave Bendix and manufactured by Roy Roth) The wallet also came with a book of around twelve routines written by Ed Marlo, David Solomon, Larry Becker, Roberto Giobbi etc etc. The wallet is of excellent quality and I use it mainly in my bizarre magic show as part of a "chilling tale". cheers, Stephen. |

If you went into your favorite magic shop and said "I want to buy a Himber wallet" and did not explain what you wanted it for, then the fault is yours. If, on the other hand, you went to your favorite magic shop and said, "I want to do the card in the wallet. Is a Himber wallet what I need?" then the fault is theirs.
A Himber wallet is essentially a flat change bag disguised as a wallet. There are ways to do the card in wallet with it, but it's not the normal accessory for that. So keep the Himber wallet. You might be able to use it for some other trick. They are very useful. Then get a card in wallet wallet.

I second getting the Harry Lorayne book, or Magic Methods sell a smaller book on the subject. I have an old manuscript from Ken Brooke. It has over a dozen killer uses for the Himber Wallet or as it was called the Proust Exchange Wallet back then. If you only knew the great uses it can be used for.
Great purchase! |

I agree that the Himber wallet is a very useful and handy tool to own. Even if you got it by mistake, you now have other possibilities at your disposal.
One of my favorite tricks to perform is R. Paul Wilsons Gypsy Monte. I don't do a standard 3 card Monte because this one more fits my personality. I figured out how to use the wallet for a card switch in the trick instead of the pocket as called for. It makes it look so much cleaner and if the wallet is used non-chalantly (sp?) no attention is drawn to the fact that the wallet is being used as a tool. So many possibilities... best Christmas gift I got |

Hi all,
There must 100 different himber wallets out there from the sounds of it. Are there certain ones (brands) to stay clear of, or certain ones that are bargains ? If there's a previous thread, a link will do, and of course I'll keep searching myself. Thx
Just hanging out with the rest of my fellow dregs.
