Hey there folks,
Anthem Flint here. I know it has been a long time since I’ve been here on the Café, but I wanted to create a topic where I can truly understand what people want to know about Q&A. I am preparing to release a lecture all about Q&A on penguin in about a month. (Keep your eyes out for it) Before I head up to give my lecture, I wanted to know how I can best serve the mentalism community and what questions I can answer that would be most beneficial to all regarding this act. Perhaps this thread will also spark some helpful discourse from other people who have performed this act. I believe that Q & A will be the best routine for mentalists post COVID as it requires little audience interaction (meaning onstage contact) and works with a large number of people from a distance. So, shall we begin the Q & A on Q & A? I think we shall! |

Hello Mr. Flint
How kind of you to reach out in service. Thank you so much. One question I think could prompt interesting discussion is the topic of demographic when doing the act. How do you use the concept that you can see the person in front of you to enhance your performance? A quick, simple example. If someone writes down a name and the person who’s information I’m using is in their 70s I would probably assume it’s the name of a grandchild. Age, gender, style of dress, etc what do these things tell you as a performer? Again thank you for your kindness. Looking forward to your lecture. Best, Brandon

Very interesting thread!
I haven't tried Q&A yet so lots of info and an up to date textbook would be lovely. What textbooks have you found the most helpful and useful so far... What are the samples? |

Q&A as well as blindfold routines and muscle reading can not be taught. You can teach the methods behind but the way of delivering back the information to the audience is personal.

Hello Mr. Timon,
That is an interesting take on this discussion. I'd love to dive more into this if you have the time and interest. Personally I believe there are techniques and ideas that someone can impart to others that can help them perform more accurate and engaging Q&A routines. But I can also imagine a certain level of acting ability, sympathy for others, and a natural charisma are all up to the individual performing and you either have it or you don't. For example, I make my living as a screenwriter. Some people feel that writing is similar that you either have the knack for it or you don't. But there are countless books on techniques and structure that I know have made me a better writer. Would I have been able to get anything out of those books if I didn't have some natural affinity for writing? I believe that can be a really interesting discussion and of use to anyone thinking about doing a routine like this. Where exactly does technique break away from the performer? What's natural and what is learned? Would love to hear your thoughts Mr. Timon and you as well Mr. Flint. Best, Brandon

It all starts with the right foundation, including having the proper foundation and understanding of mentalism itself firmly in place.
Also I gave Anthem my thoughts on this the last time he asked this question. |

The Penguin Live lecture is a game changer! Anthem and Aria are true workers who have put the work in and really care about the art of Q and A. There is a great deal to learn and use in their lecture. They have also been very generous in the included bonus material.
Well done and keep up the great work! |
