Does anyone have a notation system they use when scripting/writing routines? I'm looking for a form of shorthand that will be faster for me to write out moves and provide a small factor of security in case my notes are grabbed by someone.
Or am I just being really silly? Berk

There is no such thing as too silly - in my book anyway.
I computerized effects so I can carry them on my pocketpc for easy reference....... As for shorthands, I assume you are farmiliar with a lot of the abbriviations used (ex - TT, or for cards DF, DB). I tend to do the same for trick descriptions. I'll use the full name early on, then an abbriviation - and then use the abbriviation for the rest of the trick. Also I'll cut out any word that you don't really need. It doesn't have to be newspaper perfect English after all. F'Instance: Hold four cards in left hand in a mechanic's grip, and do an Elmsley Count to show all four face up. would be Hold 4 in left mechanic, Elmsley Count (EC), show all 4 face up. EC again to show AH face up. |

I have basically the same system you use. The abbriviations of the slights should be enough to throw them off. Anything more complicated might even confuse the owner in time.
I have mine in my card wallet and also in my reg wallet. I write it down on blank cards. Rannie

Thanks for the tips. I was concerned that actually writing all this stuff down was going "overboard" but now that I see others are doing it I feel less obsessive.
I am familiar with most of the abbreviations for the sleights/props that I use, but occasionally I still get confused when I see some things abbreviated. I guess I just haven't learned THOSE secrets yet

I don't think its obsessive, we're just being careful.

Juan Tamariz has devoloped such a system for card magic: Alfabeto Symbolico. There is also a website that should give you an idea how the system works.

Try SHAMAN by Tom Jorgenson (http://www.joyalstack.com/Pages/DejaLu/U......son.html).
Further to my earlier post, I think SHAMAN might be hard to track down now, but I believe that Tom might be a member of The Magic Café, so you could try PM'ing him.

When I got Sonata from Juan Tamariz, he included a pamphlet describing his symbolic method. I learned it, but really have never found it to be practical. The best way to remember your routines is simply to choose a few great effects and focus on them until you will never forget them.

You can get a portable recording system.
Panasonic has one and it transfers your thoughts either text with dragon naturally speaking or wav format. It holds up to 8 hours 10 mins and 5 folders. Is that what you are speaking of?
