I see many posts where people say they can't figure out how to add a picture to their posts.
I have had the same frustrating problem and finally figured it out. 1) Your pictrte must not be too large. Right below when you go to submit your file it tells you the file limitation. I use a free program called IrfanView to resize my images. 2) When you preview your post the link to your photo will not show up. It only shows up when you submit the post. This is counterintuitive since the reason to preview your post is to see how it looks. |

Do you know how to get a photo to actually show up in a post rather than a link to an image that readers have to click to see?

Upload your images to imgur.com (it's a free account) then use the option there to generate "bbcode" for the image you want to display.
Just copy/paste that into your post and your image will appear in the post or comment. That's how I embedded this: |

As a reminder, the 600 pixel limitation is only for photos you wish to post using IMG tags so the image appears inline in the thread. But you can also simply post a link to an image so it opens in a new window. That allows you to share larger versions of your images and provide potential buyers with much more detail about the product you are selling. Random example:
For a much larger version, click here: https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-tWwM......Mj4R.jpg I used IMG tags for the smaller image and didn't add any IMG tags at all for the link to the larger image. Mark

Glad to know I'm not the only one frustrated by this issue. Steve of the Magic Café made the valid point that at least some of this is in the FAQ but I still think it would be valuable to have it as a sticky. Pleast comment if you have learned something new or have something new to add.

The few members that have responded to this thread are doing so not because it is a sticky but because it's a new thread. The problem with stickies is that most members don't read them so there isn't much point in making this doing so with this thread. The question has been asked and answered many times yet there is always someone that doesn't search first but starts a new topic. The same would happen with a sticky. Even inigmntoya's comment has been posted before. Between looking at the option under each thread and reading the FAQ, there shouldn't be any reason why someone cannot post an image but again, most members don't take the time to read either guidelines and would not look to see if there was a sticky.
A good example of this is the sticky in this forum about our post counter. Even though the topic completely explains how the post counter works, we continually get questions about why a post count is not increasing. The sticky was ignored. One other example of a sticky that isn't used is in the New to Magic forum. The first two stickies are all about books for beginners yet almost everyday we see a new post asking what books are good for beginners.

Dave, I apologise for calling you Steve in my post above.

That's ok. If I had to be called by another name, Steve would be perfectly fine.
