It's been a long time since I've posted here, aside from a recent entry when I discovered David Roth had died.
My interest in coin magic hasn't died, but life just gets in the way sometimes. I know many of you will understand. I'm posting now to thank all of you for the joy I still get when I look at coins and remember the magic I've seen with them – and to hope that this small section of magic might have a future to bring wonder to the next generation the way it did to me. I first encountered the joys of magic thanks to Roy Walton and his shop in Glasgow, the famous "Tam Shepards". The wonder I experienced in that store when Roy would demonstrate a simple trick (and I remember his french drop to this day!) inspired years of on-again, off-again dedication to magic. But it was always that first coin trick that Roy showed me (despite his renown for cards) that I remembered and loved. Many years later I renewed my passion for coins, and joined this forum. I met many friends, and learned so much. Of course, like many others, life dealt some unexpected blows, and I lost touch with this community. So much has changed since then! My mentor Roy Walton has gone, and so has the king of coins, David Roth. I have numerous gaffs still by Todd Lassen, and he too has gone to that Magic Castle in the sky. While I'm still here I wanted to thank you all for your continued love of this art. Although I haven't been able to keep up with you, I do appreciate your dedication! I dearly hope the wonder that was inspired in me 50 years ago will continue! |
