Couldn't find an existing thread on this, but it just arrived in Aus.
I already had Carey's Way in hard copy, and a few others as ebooks. Nonetheless I was delighted to pick this up - I much prefer hard copy to digital, and all Carey's work is well considered and efficient. Because this is a best of, it's likely you'll have come across some of the stuff in here previously. I certainly have only had time to put a handful of tricks into practice. There are about 150 different effects in here. All succinctly described, 20 or so with links to online video demonstrations of nuances or specifics. There's a little bit of everything here - mostly cards, but a sprinkly of other little miracles. More than any other author, Carey treats his audience with respect. Descriptions focus on the core nuances of his particular presentation. No time is spent explaining universal techniques - if a control is needed, he'll let you use the one you like best. Unless of course (as is often the case) John has some extra considerations or observations about the best option to use, or an extra piece of business that makes something perfectly suited to the context. Every effect is a fresh and justified approach to a specific effect. The instruction is exactly as simple as it needs to be, and no simpler. This approach means the bang for buck here is off the charts. Not only do you get an overwheling quantity of well thought out magic, you get it focused down to John's favorite pieces. All of this wrapped up with the usual Phil Smith polish and graphic design. Highly recommended. For anyone else who has it (or if you're looking at other Carey stuff on your mantle) - let's hear some favorites! |

Aaaaaaaaand it's sold out.
I really don't understand why in this case it is or better why it was limited to 200 copies. Finally an overview over the ton of Carey's releases. But gone in an instant..... |

Ah, didn't realise it was gone. If it helps, I'm not sure the wording on the limited edition bookplate excludes a future unlimited edition. "This numbered edition has been limited to 200 copies,"

BigBlindMedia just posted about an ebook called The Very Best of John Carey. It sounds like it might be the same content, for anyone like me who missed out on the physical book.

I had to pick up the digital copy via BBM. Saves me 100 bucks, but I still want that book...just need to hide it from the wife somehow...

I also bought the ebook from BBM before I saw that it is back in print....
Now I have to print the ebook myself because I wont read over 300 pages on a screen.... I should have waited a couple of days... ;-) |
