Hello,
Could anyone give me advice on children’s magic effects to buy that are not wildly expensive, but are very strong and have a good response from the audience. I was thinking of something that has some audience participation. I would be grateful for any ideas of tricks that have worked well for you in the past. thank you, matt. |

Certain tricks are standard.....maybe too standard.
Stuff like the "Magic Coloring Book" or a "Misers Dream" always get good reactions. Dave

Food for thought. It's not the tricks that get great reactions, it's the props presented in the hands of a master entertainer. It's all about the routine, and the entertainer, not the trick.
You'll need to find what works best for you, and create your own routines that get the best response. Sorry, but no trick will make you an overnight sensation! One of my favorite kid props is the clatter box. My routine seems to be the hit of my show, but in some other performer's hands, it might be OK, or not entertaining at all. - Donald.

Donald, Can you explain how you use the clatter box, I was thinking about purching it but it didn't seem that impressive.

I would suggest a book on effects for children. There are tons of appropriate books in the regular book stores in the Puzzles and Games section.
In the second hand bookstores you may find books by Bill Severn. This is GREAT STUFF for kids and adults. If you purchase a "trick" you have just one trick--if you acquire a book (even from the library) you'll have tens, maybe hundreds of items from which to choose. Have Fun! |
