What are, according to you, the best sources (books, DVD) to learn some rope magic to insert in a close-up routine. There are a few good tricks on Mark Wilson's Complete Course but do you know any other?
Thanks Metius

Scott Guinn also has a nice ring and rope routine. And of course, there are also George Sands books.

Don't forget George "Sandsational" Sands' routines and, yes, he has a vhs (sorry, no dvd) you can buy.

I never knew George Sands routine was on VHS, where can it be purchased? Is it available in PAL format. Thanks.

Part of my definition of what's best is value. I've always liked Fitzkee's Rope Eternal. It's only about $3 to $4 US and disects 6 basic methods for cut and restored rope. There's not a lot of breadth here, but it's a detailed treatment of one effect and is cheap.

Misdirections usally has a copy of RopeSational available. http://www.misdirections.com/ FYI: Sandsational is a really cut and restore, RopeSational is a easy to reset and you reuse the rope |

Actually, Daryl does most of Ropesational in "Daryl's Rope Routine". I seem to recall that it comes with a poster that details all the moves.
The funny thing is that Ropesational came about because George Sands got tired of having to buy more rope at the end of his C&R routine. So, with Ropesational, you make up the set once, and you're done.

I am into ropes right now. Doing a version of Aldo's Still Ringing. Ringing Around was not impressive in my opinion.
Practicing 3 Ropes and A Baby by Richard Sanders but I want to see a performance of this. Watched Loose Ends by John Sanders but I'm not impressed. Are they related? |

A couple of people already mentioned Abbott's Encyclopedia of Rope Magic. I just wanted to add that there are 3 volumes. Volume 1 is not even referred to as volume 1. Volume 2 is currently out of print. And volume 3 is available from Abbott's. If you get volume 1 that will keep you busy for a while.

Supreme Magic had a good book on rope magic called "Give a Magician Enough Rope" by Lewis Ganson and Hugh Miller. It's well worth reading if you ever see a copy.
Kaufman's book on Sawa's magic also has some interesting and different rope items. |
