I was playing piano at a restaurant yesterday and overheard the bartender ask a woman at the bar where she was from. Turned out she was from the little town I grew up in, many states away. But because I was in Friendly Musician Mode rather than Mentalist Mode I unthinkingly piped up, "Really, me too!" instead of taking advantage of the obvious mindreading opportunities that the situation presented. I've been kicking myself ever since.

Does anyone else have similar stories of blowing rare opportunities, so I can at least feel like I'm in good company?

I am not going to be of good company. I am sorry. I am so fanatic about collecting information for mentalism purposes that I have thought of creating a database with information about all the people I meet... ever!

Last Sunday I met a nice Irish couple in Burger King at breakfast. During small talk they said they were from Knock. After I gave them directions to I55 and waved them on there way, I noticed my key chain had an engraved medallion, the backside of which said OL of Knock. Would have been a miracle.

I think a really good opportunity is right here in the Café.

If someone would get all the questions written for Q&A acts across the globe and put them into book form, that would be a great source.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with these sites, they are networks where people meet others in their area (mostly college, high school students, but you will be suprised at who might be on there).

I have slayed college students in my area. All you need is one person's name then you have access to some of the most detailed information about them, their friends, classmates, co-workers, etc.

If you live near a college or perform at any of the 'college bars' and notice the same groups of people there (which is bound to happen), then this site will give you some devious information. I usually meet a few people, find out there names, and look them up. If they are on there then their friends will most likely be too. Just look at the pictures and see who you recognize.

I like it. Are there any UK-based sites that do the same? Friends Reunited may also be of use.

Same question again. Anyone know of the UK version of these sites?

The beauty of this is that people think you're 'the real thing', so they bring their friends to see you (hahaha), and they have no clue how you can know these things. Now, let's hope this thread gets buried before everyone becomes 'the real thing'.
