That’s cool they have a world record for it. I’m not trying to go super fast. It’s just the fastest way I have come up with. If I am setting up in a mirror stack or reverse mirror stack from a shuffled deck I do the same but with colours. I separate the reds from black then go through the blacks and find a pair and put one face down and one face up and continue like this alternating red and black every couple or so cards. That’s quicker than finding pairs and I find it faster than setting Mnemonica and going through the process of changing it to mirror stack. If anyone has any tips to set up Mem deck faster please share. Maybe it would be quicker to throw into quarter stacks. Instead of half?

I and a few others cull into Faro 4. Not sure if that’d be faster for you. It can be more discrete. Unfortunately the order may not be appropriate for what ever you need a mirror stack for.

When you say faro four do you mean from a new deck order or Memorized order? I never set a Mem deck from new deck order. I am always doing it from a shuffled deck. Same with Mirror. Always from a shuffled deck.

Just culling to Faro-4 FASDIU, bypassing NDO.
Still using 6 passthroughs though. One could adapt Karl’s cull to Faro-4 to make it even faster. However all these techniques aren’t really to be used in performance. They do have the advantage of not using a table however. Karl uses his for a killer routine, but the end reveal is a-k * 4. Maybe not the best Segway into mirror stack routines. |

Also something to think about… When looking for a specific card ex: 2 of hearts, don’t look at every card. Quickly scan the spread of cards only letting your eyes focus on a red 2. Your eyes shouldn’t even stop at a black card. The rest of them should just be a blur. Only focus on the specific color and suit of what your looking for. Try it now. Ribbon spread a deck of cards and scan them looking for the 10 of clubs. I bet you would be faster the second time if you scanned them only focusing on black cards.

The fastest method I know involves breaking the stack into quadrants. I used to lay them out in a row, but went to a clockwise construction to make it faster (overcoming muscle memory meant it was much slower at first).
1-13 14-26 27-39 40-52 Once they're all dealt out, fan each quad and put them in order. For the Radix sort that Claudio mentioned, I put the cards in a quasi telephone-pad formation 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 I toss the zeroes off to the left rather than put them below the 8. The next round is just two rows of three. 0s 10s 20s 30s 40s 50s I would love to have a routine where this is done in front of an audience, but I've never been able to contrive a suitable routine. Marlo's "Mexcian Solitaire" (popularized by Lorayne as "What a M-E-S") has an open sort, but there are effects built in along the way. For an in-the-hands option, I'll first put the deck into ~NDO, then faro into my stack. To get the cards into ~NDO, I'll upjog the Spades and half-jog the Clubs, spread the pack into a fan and pluck them in the appropriate order. For the next pass I'll upjog Hearts 1-7 and half-jog 8-K. All of the Diamonds will be on the face, so I'll fan them and pluck the cards in the appropriate K-A order. This is not quite NDO because the Diamonds and Spades are switched, but that's the starting point for faroing into my stack.

I like the clever pad formation for the Radix handling. It's a very familiar pattern to most people. If my muscle memory was not so used to two rows of 5 columns, I would probably adopt it.

Two rows of five is probably better if we're prioritizing speed, which I'm interested in. Most people can do pretty well handling six or fewer objects by sight. With rows of five, you have the far ends, left and right, and the middle. You can also gather them faster (each hand picks up one row). It's the zeroes that will take some getting used to for me.

Claudio,
Looks like you hit on one of the same methods I introduced along with Paul Neilson in print in the toolbox section for Temporarily Out of Order (2017). The full routine using the sort under-guise of an impressive multiple card divination may be found in our release titled Thought Master (which someone was kind enough to link in this thread as well).
