I am working on a shadow illusion box. Im using the Wels books for this, but it doesn't give real great detail on the construction of it. Anyone build this illusion from these books that would have some better details? Or any suggestions on building this illusion overall?
Thanks in advance, -Thad |

Check into Paul Osborn's plans. They are pretty much blue prints, with dimensions and all. They should be of some sort of help.

Thad,
There is one important detail included in the Wels book that I believe is missing from the Osborne plan. That is the light underneath the prop. This is a very important detail that many plans and builders miss. In an illusion where there is a dark stage, like Shadow Box, it is important the audience can see under the prop. Sincerely...

I'm familiar with the plans you're speaking of... believe it or not they were the standards to the industry for decades. The builder however, needed to do some R&D before creating the final product.
Changes to the SB (improvements) are plentiful. If I were you I'd talk around with people that have worked with one or more versions of the effect so that you can find the method that works best for you and the circumstances you find yourself in most of the time. I do know that Michelangelo (OnLine-VISIONS)has a new SB system that's mind blowing! It's received some serious accolades from many top designers and builders as well as performers. You may want to investigate, I'm certain Michael would be willing to work with you if an honest interest exists. I've had the pleasure of playing with the Original Okito Box as well as several other variants over the years. Everything from backloads to base load methods and more! Long story short, there's more than one way of skinning this particular cat. Feel free to PM or Email me if you have any questions. |

Andrew Mayne does have a great version for the budgeting illusionist. But if you have the dough to spend, get one top quality. But don't overlook Andrew's version or method. VERY CONVINCING.
