When what? It's at the replicators. A matter of a couple weeks. I have seen it though...it's pretty good...
koz ******* Yes opinion, but what effects do you feel would play that Paul Harris does to a big audience? koz ******* Don't get me wrong. I think he's brilliant. koz |

He is brilliant. I didn't say it plays to a big audience. I said it works well on the street. How big of audiences do you have on the street? I don't have a lot.

100 people...maybe a few more. Sometimes I only have 50.

That is a lot for a street performance. Where do you perform? I am a close up performer. If I was performing for 100 people the effects in Art of Astonishment probably would not work. They work great for me though.

I do both at the same pitch. I do a show show, I have anywhere from 30 to 100 or more. I also do close up shows at the same pitch for a few to 6 or so.
(Sorry, Koz. I'm just really looking forward to it.) Jim

Jim,
I want it out too so I can move on. I have many ideas for projects: The Art of Restaurant Magic for one. Also, there are other places the "Art of" dvd's can go. The first 3 dvd's are really about basic stuff on the streets. I would like to do an in-depth dvd on gathering...another on lines and comedy and how to develop character...and then finally hat lines and the psychology of this. Get real people to figure this out for us...interviews from performers and also from the audience's perspective. Questions asked and answered, and then a ton of different stand up effects that would work on the streets. If a guy bought all the dvd's he could put together a killer show and make a living for a lifetime.... lbp, this is about money and making a living so, I try to build a nice size audience so I can make more cash, and the Harris stuff would not work. koz |

Kono,
Get a book on creative writing on character perhaps. Look inside yourself. Who are you? What is your heritage, etc.? Koz, Your future plans sound awesome. I was actually thinking about putting together a dvd on gathering just because I think it is something that hasn't really been dealt with in depth yet. It is a fascinating subject. Hat lines, comedy lines, etc. sounds terrific. I'd also be interested in the restaurant dvd. Break a leg. Jim

Tedb.
You are right. With one hundred people it wouldn't work. But where do you perform on the street for 100 people? I am just curious. |

Well, I don't always have 100 people. Sometimes I have 20 or 30 and sometimes I have 6, because I know I have to adapt to where I'm at. I work all over the U.S. I spend a lot of time in New Orleans where I do both horseshoe and sidewalk shows. I also do festivals and work in little pitches that I don't really want to talk about, 'cause no one knows about them. I like it that way.

Koz,
What is the smallest crowd that you will do the cups for? If I only have a few I do close up coins, cards, sponge balls. I won't do the cups unless I have a certain amount of people. Just wondering if you have a cut off too? Jim

I don't do cups on the streets. I do the chop cup and I will do it for one person. It doesn't matter...the show doesn't change much. Small audience gets the same magic but very different lines, 'cause my show is interactive and you can't use a lot of the comedy material I have because it feeds off the audience, and I'm very dirty.

I work smaller shows myself but I see (and envy) the guys making the $200 shows everyday. Best, Dan- "MT is one of the reasons we started this board! I wouldn't be surprised if Flying Bob (a juggler) had a crowd of 500 people at the Fringe one year.
