Thank you for those threads, and how much roughly do magicians make per show ?

It depends where you live. Each area/city/country has a different standard of living. As you've never done any kids shows, and don't have an act it's not something you need to worry about yet.
This is not a game, earning money from entertaining children (& Adults) is a serious business. You need to have a professional approach in everything you do. It's not like setting up a lemonade stall on your drive to earn pocket money. I suggest before you worry about money that you put an act together, the advice on the thread Flourish dude mentions is a good guide. Practice it, practice some more, practice even more then do some of freebies to work it up and then if you find you have a talent for it and people like your show, you can then look at selling it.

If you are requested to perform in a party, I would advice you to be Honest with the person who is hiring you. Tell him/her that you don't have so much experiencie, but you can do your best to entertain the children.
The children want to have fun. That's the most important thing. Regards, Alejandro. |

Thanks for your info. I have another question how long should I make a kids birthday show?(I've never done a kid show so I don't know how long it should be).I was thinking 45 mins to a hour.

Usually 30 to 45 minutes is what I do, and then twist balloons.

I dp 2-hours, 35 minutes of games then I set up the show while they eat, then it's a one hour show. Modelling balloons are done before the party and during the food break then just given out at the end.

How many magic tricks do you have to do to take up a hour of time? Twelve? fifteen? And what types of games?

1-hour show four routines,
1, ribbon of fun, 2, magic painting....it does take 3 stages to complete, 1, we magic the colours (sponge balls) into a chick pan, then the colours get turned into a streamer (via one handed change bag) as the helper did it wrong, finallly the colours disappear (same change bag) and appear on the picture. 3, marmite the puppet, he does a routine which is based around who's who at the zoo. I had to make changes to the original trick as you can't work the folder one handed. 4, birthday child magics a present(an inflatable)and then uses that as wand to magic a birthday silk, which they find in the hat they have been wearing. As I've said before, it's the fun you put into the routines that's important, not the magic it'self. the trick is getting the maximum fun into a routine with out it draging on too long. During the show I also use:- breakaway wand, tipspy wand disobedient wand spring wand squidgy ball full of eye balls practical magics magic hat and all the helpers get rewarded with a balloon model made with it's own 2-4 minute comedy routine. In a 2-hour party I do 35 minutes of games, No elimination games, and all games are full participation games. the last 2 games are party dances with me leading the kids in the moves, and giving prizes out for best, hardest working, loudest shouting etc.
