Whether Matrix was improved upon is subject to debate.

Getting back to the subject at hand, variations are fine, and some do end up surpassing the original. But, and there's always a but, whether something is an "improvement" is subjective. The creator of Matrix, Al Schneider felt that the effect was not improved when other magicians began to produce a giant coin at the end. And he made a logical, and reasonable argument for it.
Soon after the jumbo coin climax, the coins began to change color and even later, size! Why? Because you can I suppose. But does that make it right? Does it move the bar higher? The original Matrix still gets extremely strong reactions from non-magicians. Of course you have to perform and present it properly. It doesn't "need" any of the jumbo coins and Chinese changes. If you want to add them, go for it. Just don't say it is necessarily an improvement.

I am a big proponent of crediting, giving people who are creative their just due, but if others don't follow it, nobody is going to perish. I am also against blatant exposure, but again, nobody is physically harmed in the process.
Another thing I am against is being overly critical. By overly critical, I mean those who pick apart a video that is done close-up, so close-up to where you cannot see the magician's face. There is zero opportunity to engage in the types of misdirection and/or direction we rely on for success. There are top professionals whose work wouldn't fare well in similarly-recorded videos, because they depend upon all of the tricks of the trade we use in actual performance. As a side note, that is why I tend to not like 3-way mirrors for practice. Maybe for shuffling or something, but for most everything else, they are too constrictive in my opinion. Another issue brought up is anonymity. I chose my screen name many years ago because it is a nickname my wife gave me. I do think it is easy for some to hide behind screen names, sometimes multiple screen names, and to be a negative influence. Finally, kindness goes a long way, or at least it used to. Don't see it as much anymore.

Vinny, thanks for sharing. It is not something I can see myself using, but I appreciate the trick.
