It strikes me that using a mem stack is an easy way to do Premonition.
Does it work just to have one pack with 1-26 then 1-25 in your stack, and the second pack with 27-52 then 27-51? That leaves you with two packs of 51 cards and you know exactly which pack to turn to. I am wondering if I am missing any subtleties with Eddie Joseph's original or Ted Lesley's versions. Thanks. |

Actually, after further thought, I've answered my own question to an extent. Doing this with Mnemonica means eg in the second pack you would have 6 jacks. Problematic.
Has anyone done any work on this? |

1) Black Evens, Red Odds;
2) Black Odds, Red Evens. Certainly not my idea, been around a long time.

What Landmark said. That way, the mate of the selection won't show up (sometimes specs mistake the mate for the selection). The two words used as mnenmonic aid are BORE and ROBE.

Basically I think always that it is a good idea to use a memorized deck for it (also for an ID...) as you have not to think. But for Premonition I would see the problem mentioned above if you use a system of #1-#26 (deck 1) and #27-#52 (deck 2)... in the Aronson stack (which is my stack since 1995...) e. g. you would find all Aces in deck 1, but none in deck 2. And if somebody would ask for an Ace, it doesn't look good if he wouldn't find any at all in the deck.
Therefore you should strive for a different system using a memorized deck. May be odd/even (not for Aronson, as the Aces are at 6th, 10th, 18th and 22nd position), but you have to investigate your stack, e. g. (Aronson) you could use #1-#10 and #37-#52 for deck 1, and deck 2 would be #11-#36 ... Jan

Funny you bring this up because I have been thinking about doing the same thing. I am sure there is a way to work it out. But I havent solved it fully yet.

You don't have to use 2 decks at all for this trick if you are a memdeck worker.

And therefore perhaps most risk of them noticing its absence from the Premonition deck. So perhaps the ideal setup would be one red and one black of each value, rather than both blacks or both reds. Seeing the mate is a convincer. You would want a mix of all four suits. And then a way to remember which deck is which. Eg deck 1 is SHOCkED. Or maybe CHOO SEED if you prefer something closer to CHaSeD. You don't really need another mnemonic for deck 2. |

There's an excellent and original version of this effect by Kyle Leon in this month's Hermit Magazine.
