Several months ago, in a fit of impatience about the price of "watch" effects like Timetrix and Time Machine, I invented an effect of my own.
You show your wristwatch. Spectator examines it. The watch is a real one, a plain one. The watch is turned face down and wound randomly -- by spectator. Now, face up, the watch shows a random time. A folded business card on the table is unfolded to show his random choice. I have a manuscript. I'm charging $15 dollars. But I'm so sick of dealing with Paypal and the crap that goes with marketing it. 1. any comments on the effect, which is achievable with a six-dollar watch [Target, Wal-mart]. 2. any suggestions on selling. thanks biff. |

Sounds like a pretty well known concept to me.
I don't know off the top of my head where the concept originated but it's used in many routines. Recent ones I have seen are the Osterlind one (which he's been doing for 20 years I think) and the Jermay one. I am assuming you are using the same well known concept. You certainly need to check this out before selling anything. Should you happen to have a brand new concept of your own devising then congratulations! Regards, David. |

Bartlewizard is correct, also Barrie Richardson uses this technique (among thousands of others). it is very well known.
Unless this is a different method? if it is then that is, of course, fine. But in my opinion you can perform that effect with the method used By Mr.Osterlind and others perfectly well.

Plus the lovely fact that Mr. Osterlind's and Mr. Jermay's routines let the person with the watch set it to the time another person is thinking of.

Okay...just an idea....a different one...
Banacek says he's never seen it. Hank Lee wants to sell it, but that's okay. You guys are right. My bad. fib |

If it is different than Osterlind then sell it. It is on the first DVD on the Osterlind set. Check it out and see if it is the same method.

If you're developing a string of new effects, it might be wise to keep marketing it online via a website to build traffic over time.
