Hello
Gordon Astley and I organised what I believe was the UK's first Bizarre Magic convention at Berrow Court, Birmingham. We persuaded the late Charles Cameron out of retirement to be our star guest. This was all organised before the internet took hold and was organised by snail mail! I have long since lost any of the paperwork with names of other attendees, although I remember that Professor (then Doctor) Richard Wiseman and possibly Andy Nyman were there. Please excuse my lack of memory here, but it was 27 years ago and a lot of water has gone under the bridge since! Being so involved in the organisation over the weekend, and of course there being no digital cameras and smart 'phones then, I don't recall taking any photographs of the event. It is just possible that someone who visits this sub-forum was there. I would be really grateful if anyone here who did attend and took any photographs get in touch with me. BTW it was also when I launched Black Artefacts. Thanks Keith Hart

Might be worth popping this on some of the Bizarre Magic Facebook groups Keith - I'm happy to do so if you don't have access or believe like me that even the Devil would be embarrassed to admit to creating Facebook!

Hello Keith,
Great to hear you are well. Times fly, but I had a blast at Berrow Court. It was one of the best conventions I been to. I still remember Gordon Astleys friendly greeting when we arrived at the old haunted house. You and your daughters meeting us in the great hall. And Charles Camerons incantation with fire shooting out from his hands before the lights went out an the dimly lit ghost was floating down the main staircase. I was there with two friends from Sweden and Bob Gillard who was the reason I new about the convention. He is now helping out at the Magic Circle London if I am not mistaken. We know each other from the Shadow network, which at the time was also done by old fashion letters. Both Bob and I competed in the competition that was won by Bernard Anderson. I will se if I can find any old photos. I think I did take some but I am not sure were they might be today. All the best Hugo Vesper |
