I've been asked to provide my hands (and only my hands) for a TV commerical. The client wants a series of quick flourishes and would like my suggestions.
I've asked them whether they want the moves tabled or in the air. The moves I'm think would look nice are a) Turnover Spread b) Hot shot card c) Riffle Shuffle d) One hand shuffle e) Triple Charlier Cut. What other moves and factors should I take into account when choosing moves? |

Is, this by any chance, one of those car insurance commercials?

Oops, forgot to respond.
I'd say the Hot Shot Card and the one handed shuffle, but those are just the ones that are the most impressive to me personally. |

Instead of the riffle shuffle, just do the "bridge/sizzle" after a faro shuffle. Or a one handed shuffle. Springing the cards and waterfall is always good too. Simple switch...one handed popout move.

I've always loved seeing an in the hands faro shuffle! Shown real up close as your about to bridge the cards and you can see that it is an absolutely Perfect Shuffle!!! That's Skill!!!

I doubt many non-magicians would really pay particular attention to it (better for us anyways ) I would say probably a one-handed shuffle, Hot Shot Cut, Daryl's Super Duper cut, any good sybil cut, arm-spreads, fans... those are all the most impressive to me, I think. The shots will be hands only and then my hands will be intercut with someone from the business who will be the one 'appearing' to do the tricks.
That means I can't do arm spreads or moves that happen in the air. I'm a little worried about the gig because its such a specific thing that I am being asked to do that I feel like a fraud doing it. I.e. Whilst I can the moves very well, I don't specialise in card flourishes and I am sure there are people who JUST do card flourishes! |

Hmm, 13 cards kind of suck. I would go with a nice one handed fan. I would open the fan real quick and close then go right into lets say a double lift to do a quick color change. Then what ever else you have time for that you can do well. My buddy did the same thing. They only used him for a very short time. The sucky think is that he had to stay at the news place for around 4 hours to record and they only showed about 40 seconds. Find out exactly how much time they are giving you is the main thing. The rest is what ever is super flashy in a very short time frame.

Just finished the shoot. The thirteen cards were bridge size and had white (?) backs! They did just want flourishes in the end so here's how it broke down.
Riffle shuffling into sprining into turnover spread.. "PICK A CLUB ANY CLUB" (refering to social clubs) I picked up the top 13 cards of the deck and did a one handed fan and turn them over. These will be intercut into the premade cards so no one will notice the cards have white backs. Each card has a name of venue in the index. "WITH PANTHERS CLUBS YOY HAVE YOUR CHOICE OF THIRTEEN VENUES" I then brought the spread together squeezed the 13 cards into one card which had Panther's Clubs printed on it. "ALL WITH ONE CLUB....AND ONE MEMBERSHIP CARD" I did a twirl change and the playing card turned into a membership card for the club. Here they will cut to a graphic before cutting back to the member ship card. "ONLY $8.80 TO JOIN" I do Marlo's snap change so the membership card becomes a card printed with $8.80. I then L*****d the member ship card and did a pushed the $8.80 card through my fist so it turned into $4.40 card "and $4.40 for pensioners..." I then produced the orignal 13 cards in a fan. "Panther's Clubs for member ship call..." The footage I saw looked pretty good so long as they pick the right takes! I am worried that after 25 takes there might be some flashes! |

Bust out with the Stretch cut. it always looks impressive.
And the Electric Cut. That's a hottie that instantly grabs attention. And they are both simple enough to do too. |

What is the arrow cut exactly
|

The arrow cut is an invention of mine. It's basically a seven packet display cut that looks like an arrow. (Uses the same method as my lighting pentagon cut). ANYWAY, I was thinking about this earlier, and maybe you could do some productions!! I think a cardini one card production and/or a tenkai production and/or an interlock production (if you can pull that one off). Perfect production is also a good one.
