Does anybody have information about Art Emerson? Sadly,I heard Larry West passed away but I haven't heard anything about Art. Also, at conventions and shows, Art had a briefcase that assembled into a close-up table (lid detached from bottom, three flaps unfolded from top, top and flaps fit onto the bottom). Can't seem to find anyone who sells them (or plans for them).

Tony,
Know Art Emerson and saw him at a few conventions, howvere I do not know what he is up to now.I own many Emerson / West packet tricks as well as an autographed letter from Art. I also have the briefcase you are talking about and if interested I would be willing to sell it as I am more into collecting than performing. Rennie
The effect is the important thing, how you achieve it is not.......

I last saw Arthur at a magic auction in Ft. Worth a few months ago.
He looks well and is still a fan of magic and old time radio. He is on the "net but I'm sorry to say I don't have his email address. I believe he still resides in the Metroplex. Ed Hutchison Madison, MS |

Art Emerson attended the recent MAGIC Live! Convention in Las Vegas. He is doing well.
Larry West passed away a number of years ago. Many of his effects are marketed by a local Washington, DC area magician. The close up case which you mention was a creation of Scotty York. Art had one of the early prototypes made by Scotty. The case was manufactured (without Scotty's permission) and sold for many years. I knew Art and Larry from the earliest days of Emerson and West and actually wrote many of the instructions for the many, many packet tricks they sold. The third part of the E&M packet trick story was the manufacture of the tricks via silk screening in the days before the card manufacturers made gaff cards for magicians. |
