This isn't a post about my girl cheating on me, it's actually the name of an effect that I need information on. From reading the description in Abbott's catalog I think it will be the long-awaited answer to a routine I have been developing for a while. However, I am concerned about the audience volunteers holding the ends of the rope. In my routine, I do need a volunteer holding each end, but they will be holding the rope for a long time with quite a bit of movement. Is there any chance that a volunteer could ruin the effect by pulling too hard, etc... I once saw a magician perform a rope escape that seemed similar and the volunteer pulled too hard or he lost his grip I guess, and the rope came loose, exposing the method. Is there any chance that it could happen with "M'Lady Steps Out"? Is it foolproof?
The trick I saw performed was with rope only, "M'lady Steps out" uses a 3-sided wooden frame around the escapee, but I'm afraid the methods may be too similar. If anyone could help I would sure appreciate it. I hate to spend over $100 if it's not going to work for me. Send me a PM if you need too. Thanks! Magically yours, Regan

Howdy-
Yes, they can pull too hard and thus expose one major part of the method. Have you considered a Granny's Necklace setup with a rear C shaped gimmick that could be removed? THis could be hidden by a silk tied around the ropes...seems there could be git-arounds that you could work out.

How about Cords of Phantasia? No gimmicks are used and you can use three volunteers: two to pull the ends of two ropes so they penetrate through the third volunteer. I usually get a good reaction from it but I use a combination of two versions of this trick plus it ends up with a knot in the middle of both ropes just as at the beginning of the trick.

Thanks to all.
Tom, I was afraid that could happen. I will have to consider something else, I guess. I will try to research "Granny's Necklace" and Jimmy's suggestion, "The Cords Of Phantasia". Thank you again. Regan

I have "My Lady Steps Out" and I like it, but I had to remodel it a bit. I've never had a problem with someone pulling the ropes. There is no reason not to leave slack, nor is there a reason for them to pull. I have them stand and hold ropes as "guards." I place a hat and decorative collar on the girl to look like a princess (and to obscure her view of the "magic").
I put door magnets on the two front doors to keep them locked shut. I also built a simple stand for the frame to rest on so that it doesn't have to be held. I also add felt covering for the inside making it visually clean. Yes, and I repainted it. It was painted to draw attention to itself...the last thing I wanted. I think it is a clever principle and works well. Since the doors must be close when she walks through them, it's most effective to have her walk forward soon after you close the doors so they retain the vision of the rope in front of her. There is a critical moment when closing the doors you must block and routine to cover. I've used it mostly with children or teenagers because it is a bit small to use comfortably with most adults. I liked this because there was no "tying" involved and the frame gave the effect an illusiionette quality.
