Hi everybody,

I just bought a puppy Basset Hound yesterday, but I'm having a hard time coming up with a name for her.

She is mostly white, but has black and brown on her face and black on her back.

Keeping in mind the features of a Basset Hound, (long ears, big jowls, droopy/sad looking eyes, and short wrinkly legs) I was wondering if anyone could come up with some names that would be good for her.

Thanks.

We have had several bassets and used to breed them. Our bassets were named: Clark's Red-Freckled Annie (Annie), General Jeb Stuart (Jeb), Genreal Jeb's Lady (Lady), and Catoe's Peaches 'N Cream (Peaches). Peaches is the only one still with us.

Other names I have heard for bassets: Duke, D.J. (Duke Jr.), Thunderpaws, Sherlock (as in Holmes because he was used for hunting), and Bear. I also knew a wiener dog named Droopy. Good luck naming your pooch and remember that if the dog is to be AKC registered he or she must have a unique name and must have three names. Much like people. Of course with the possible exception of Peaches, our bassets ALL thought they were people. People who lived outside but people none the less.

That is a good one, also, because Holmes used a basset named Toby from time to time, most notably in Sign Of The Four. Later, "Toby" starred in Disney's The Great Mouse Detective. Smile

I would do a classic name: ie. gracey, cleopatra, mona, aphrodite, mrs. (fill in name here), something like that.

Thanks for the input everybody.

I was thinking Droopy would be a good name, too.

Go with "The People's Choice". Name her "Cleo".
After having her in your home for a few days she may give you some idea's of what to name her.

How about "Harlow" (as in Jean Harlow)?

I have had a basset since I was a young child. You will love yours.

My boy is named George and the girl is named Gracie. They will soon be a mom and dad.
