I hope this is the right place to post this, I am looking into learning the rings, I have been hearing good things about Cellini's DVD, my only question is: Does he use a standard set of rings or will I have to go out buy a new set?
Also anyone care to recommend another tape/dvd for viewing to learn the rings? |

Hi SirT
On Cellini’s DVD, he only uses 2 rings a single and a standard key. I highly recommend this DVD it is Great. Really got me back into my rings. kOnO

I have quite a number of books and videos on rings and have to say that you can learn something from all of them.
But if you want a complete elegant, laid back 2 ring routine, go for the Cellini Lord and Master. It is beautiful, and as had been said, uses standard rings. That is what got me interested in rings after ignoring them as being "silly and boring" for nearly 20 years. And if you are a little more "out there" and want an upbeat in-your-face routine get Chris Capeharts 3 ring routine dvd. This is the type of routine I do now, and is based on some moves from all of the vids, but primarily from Capehart's. BroDavid

The Cellini routine is A Great Routine.
If you cannot get the DVD from your favorite store, let me know and I can get it and ship it for free. Frank

Cellini has a real pretty routine, but if you're in the learning stage, I would also recommend the Jeff McBride Magic on Stage, Commando Act, Volume 1, available from L & L Publishing. It has a ton of most of the basic moves on it - way more than on the Cellini dvd. You'll get more for your money with McBride.

Good to know. I've never seen the McBride dvd. I'll have to check it out as well.

Yeah, I second the McBride dvd. He shows his own six ring routine. And then he just gets out of control showing tons of ring moves that he has learned over the years.

Thanks for the tip. My McBride DVD is now on it's way. Cellini's routine is beautiful, and just what I was looking for, but he really doesn't explain that much, just demonstrates the moves once.
At least I now have my goals set, I know what to shoot for and hopefully videos like McBride's can fill in the technical gaps.

Hello:
I agree with the others on the Capehart and McBride videos; I have found them to be the best and most complete. Another video, the Stevens Magic Teach-in is just okay IMHO. The Richard Ross segment was GREAT, but the others (Marshall, Hapner, Smith) were mediocre. Ron |

Thanks for the heads up on the DVD's. Like others, I have not done the rings because they just did not seem to be my style of magic. I may look at them again.

Also, one more tip for people just starting with the rings is to get Lewis Ganson's Routined Manipulation books. Part 1 has Ganson's 8 ring routine, which was the first I ever learned as a kid and is a great routine. In Ganson's finale book, he has the Odin ring count, which is a very deceptive way to show 8 seperate solid rings.

Quote: Yes, in the FINALE there is Ken Brookes variation of the Odin count, which is absolutely great, the *normal*/classical Odin count can f.ex. be seen in the Richard Ross video from Stevens Magic Emporium. On 2004-08-04 16:09, JamesinLA wrote:

I just went to Murphys to get my stuff for the week and I picked up a copy of the McBride DVD.
Looking forward to watching that this evening. Frank Posted: Aug 5, 2004 1:43pm -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I watched the McBride DVD from beginning to end. I got the stage magic DVD with his "Commando Act". It's very good. It is one of the more entertaining DVDs/Videos I've ever watched. His stage performance was very good and used packs small/plays big effects and apparently things that he uses in his own stage acts. The effects work well practically anywhere which is why it's called the "Comando Act". A very good Silk Production Vanishing cane to silks A very good Rope Routine A Rope/Ring Routine A great Rings routine A very good Mouth Coil Routine A champagne bottle production to close the show. No Cards at all! Extra Ring Moves Performance Ideas How to open your show Book Suggestions Practice Suggestions It was just plain very good. I'm not really a McBride fan but perhaps I am now. I'm going to get the others as well. It's nice to know you're money's well spent and that the hype matches what's actually one the DVD. If anyone wants a copy, let me know. I'll ship it to you for free. Frank

I picked up a lot of ring moves from that McBride dvd. I have also performed his ring and rope routine.

I think his rope routine is one of the more magical of that type I've seen.

Contact Tedb for a copy of the Cellini Ring DVD. It is well worth it. Plus Ted's a nice guy no matter what anyone says....

I was wondering how to "flow" my rope routine into the rings. Now I know!
McBride's flourishy style conflicts with mine, but so far it's one of most helpful videos I've seen in a long time. It's just what I needed to fill in the gaps in the Cellini DVD.
