I am putting together a Halloween-themed show and I would like to hear from you guys: what ideas you have, what has worked well for you in the past, what illusions to perform, etc. I have never put together a Halloween show before and would like to know what others have done in the past.
Thanks! |

Well there is a thread about your head sliding down your sloulders. Check that out. 10 bucks for a cool effect. So far no review. So can't count on it being wounderful. But still worth a try.
Vampire Illusion Hand Chopper Head Chopper (guillotine, I know I spelled that wrong) Twisting Arm Illusion Light Bulb threw Women Illusion Here are a few...Peter Loughran has some neat stuff to check out. The Iron Garrote is pretty neat-looking. Hope this gets the wheels turning. Michael

Sean Alexander has a rather lovely gallows illusion that he stole from me! He performs it rather well in an ominous way but don't tell him I said so. PM and ask if he will make you one, you never know!
Keep passing the open windows!

Paul Osborne has a book called "Haunted Illusions." I don't have the book, but it seems to fit with your theme.

When we wrote our Halloween show for the first theme park to sponsor it, the first stop was Paul Osborne's "Haunted Illusions." There are a lot of good illusions in there that fit perfectly into the show.
We also changed the theme on numerous existing illusions, Temple of Benares, Shadow Box, Buzz Saw, etc. Many times a different paint design, new costumes, lighting and music can turn your everyday illusions into a Halloween theme piece. |

Hey Wol you cheeky little monkey!!! I didn't steal it from you bud; you just missed out on a bargain prop. (I had quicker legs mate!!)
Wol is correct guys. My gallows routine does seem to go down well - as I get a spectator to "walk the gallows." You should see some of the faces on the poor guys that have been ROPED into it!! (Pun intended!!!) (Hey Wol that was pretty good for me!) Impaled is another great illusion for this theme. Put lots of blood and guts in there as your assistant drops - niiiiiiice! Right up my street. I was thinking of putting together a gory type horror show with the idea of starting small with items like needle through arm, spike through tongue - working up to impaled and buzz saw - but having a stooge in the audience for the buzz saw and really selling the fact that this was a 'real' audience member. Cut her in half, have lots of blood and 'animal organs' to show the rest of the audience, take the cut woman and place her in a body bag and have her taken off stage. Then as a finale have security restrain me, place me on some gallows with a noose around my neck and hang me - tabs close, end of show! Sorry, just went off on one, I have a sick imagination - I know. Brian don't know if this was of any help but hope you found it an interesting read! By the way, if you want a cheating the gallows made PM me for more info! Cheers Sean Alexander |

Here's what John Bundy's doing... maybe it can be an inspiration. John's on Magic Café, BTW.

Magic Tricks for Halloween Parties
Just about any magic trick can be converted to a Halloween Theme type show. Productions are done by Spirits. Vanishes are done by the "Evil-Doer." The following selections of magic tricks can be used during the Halloween Season: Stage Magic/Illusionettes

Be sure you add the "little touches" that are needed for any Halloween show such as noting where blood would drip on the prop and painting it on.

Who's your audience? Just like with any other show, the audience needs to be considered -- are they adults, kids, families, teenagers, co-workers, etc. -- so the effects will be appropriate.
I can see a Halloween show for a church group being totally different from one for a local fair or a corporate gig. A show for little kids needs a different visual look and presentation than one for adults. And so on. Good luck!

Here's a bit I designed years ago for a Wax Museum I was to appear at for Halloween..."The WereWolf Escape!"
I came out and did a normal Thumb Cuffs, but something was bothering me...I began to visibly suffer and nearly hyperventilate...I left the stage and appeared on the roof (actually an overhang this was outdoors) I was noticably upset and fell to the roof. When I came up I had a GREAT Don Post WereWolf mask on. I came back to the stage area where some 'attendants' in white ran out and subdued me and put me in a Straight Jacket...after the usual overwrought histrionics...I ripped of the jacket (torn shirt of course and big scratch marks across my chest). In doing so I pulled off the mask inside the jacket as it was going over my head...and I was back to noramal (debatable) and led off stage. Very visual stuff. And easy to do. Enjoy the greatest holiday of them all! Doug

Yes, contact John and get his lecture notes ($20 I think). He just performed and lectured at Abbott's and did a great job. His lecture on Halloween magic is very good. It gets you thinking not only how to adapt the tricks but how to promote and sell the show. John works his Halloween market six months out of the year. Check out some of his productions http://www.illusionbiz.com.
But do realize that some of John's material is copyrighted and he does protect it accordingly.

As Richard said... John Bundy is the man to talk to. Though, they may be out of town for a couple of weeks, so if you get no response, try again later.
BTW... Hi Richard. Thanks again for helping to make last week just a bit more relaxed and enjoyable. |

I agree with the previous posts that John Bundy is the guy to talk to. I've seen his Halloween work and it is superb!
