Great presentation! I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way.

I saw Gazzo on his lecture tour about a year ago, and although I agree with most of the comments made, my vote goes to Johnny Paul. I saw Gazzo live front and center only two or three rows deep, so that increase the impact of the performace. I saw John Paul on a video tape (so that reduces the impact) and it had for the greatest impression on me of any cups and ball routine. And I have seen most of the performers mentioned either live or on video. Of course all of this is subjective, just my opion to throw on the pile.

I think Gertner might get my vote. What a great routine.

I must say for me it has to be Gazzo.
He is also a great teacher and has contributed the most to cups and balls. His routine and hand crafted pouches and endless advice are exceptional. He said to me during his master class this will make you good money on the streets. I will not doubt him again. Mario |

I agree with Mario, woithout the teachings of the one they call Gazzo, I wouldnt be making the hats. However I have had to stop the striptease part as I was turning stomachs as well as heads...

Bob Read's routine, The Penultimate Cups and Balls shows up on eBay from time to time. It's worth having.
I saw Gazzo performe the cups and balls in a private performance for me when I was at Scarborough Faire. He was still recovering from his stroke, so his loads were a bit labored, but the routine was solid. One thing I think we forget is how much an audience is misdirected by laughter. If the audience is concentrating on catching him, they probably will, but if they relax, they will be fooled. It's much more difficult to load a big orange into a cup than it is to load a lemon -- unless you can completely hide the orange.

Hi all,
I once saw Nick Nicolas do his cups a balls while on a visit to Australia. He fooled me completely. (not too hard really) Like Bill mentioned above about humor being a great piece of misdirection. Nick had the crowd going with his use of the tennis ball as a peice of misdirection in a lead up to something else, so when he did the loads of 6 tennis balls and a huge tennis ball under his hat, it completely floored the whole audience. (which was several hundred by the way) Great show as well.
